Fuel is expensive and wasting fuel is tantamount to that most heinous of crimes - wastes of money. But how can I save money? should I throw my spouse out the side, tailgate semi trucks, make animal sacrifices? Well don't you worry, your uncle hammerheadfistpunch is to help with a 3 step program to BEAT the EPA mileage numbers by at LEAST 10%.

Step 1. buy a diesel

Step 2. Load it up with heavy camera gear, turn on the A/C and heated seats

Step 3. Set cruise to 75 or so

Crap. I've been getting only 100 MPG in my Volt. To be beaten by a VW, oh the shame!

Wait a minute. Never mind.

They do get great milage though! I love our Passat Wagon, with the 2.0 Turbo 6 spd and set cruise at 75, it gets 30 MPG hwy, 1 better than the EPA rating. Slow down to 70 and it will get 32. Play with the hills and you can get 34! (by that I mean speed up to around 90 on downhills and let it bleed off on the uphills back to 70... but I've never actually done this) (or have I)

Plus VW = Fun to drive!

i really enjoy the replies below trying to one up. Any mods? I hear DPF delete also tacks on a little more mpg. What's your total miles to the tank? Those displays are never the best, afterall.
