And this is science here: It isn't a sportscar unless the hood opens backwards. No exceptions really. Corvettes, Datsun Z's, Opel GT's and SAAB 900's are all sportscars. Miatas, Toyabarus, and 944's are not.
I don't make the rules, I just play by them.

I half agree and am half pissed.

1) What would you classify a 944 as?
2) What would you say if I installed front hinges on a 944 I may or may not buy in the future?

nothing like having the hood come through your window in a 40mph crash.

Damn son. My Lada is a racecar.

944 with standard hood is not a sportscar. If you get tricky with the hinges you can convert it to be a sportscar!

SPORTSCAR

if you look at the GMs above the hood is wider than the windshield so that'd be hard to do.

Gets a pass?
Also, what about this guy?

Actually if the whole cab tilts up then it's a supercar

I'm perfectly ok with this.
When I fist got my Datsun my friends were all weirded out because the hood opened "backwards." It's awesome.

It's a crossover. NEXT QUESTION

On my personal "sports car" I used to pop my funky hood while I was driving when I wanted to cool the engine off. Worked awesome.

which one?

Yep, cab tilts forward

Corvette ain't no sportscar, these are.

Edsel is a textbook sportscar.

which GM?

You have a point. Even the Dodge Viper clamshell hood opens that way. So ladies and gentlemen, it's a sportscar regardless of the SRT, ACR bullshit they keep telling you

oh, when I posted there wasn't any other comments visible yet. They came through about the same time I think. I'm sure the majority of hoods will impact the A-pillar or slide over the windscreen anyway.

i have heard stories of guys with "Hood Prop" getting hurt, even decapitated.

as a previous 240z owner and a current corvette owner... I could get on board with this school of thought.

no wonder.. less force is needed on the hood to snap the bolts.

![]() 09/09/2014 at 01:20 |

Well, why are some hoods hinged forward while others not? It seems much more practical to have the hood hinged rear for better access...maybe old sportscars liked to pop theirs on the go when their friend overheating arrived?!
