So today I was gonna change the Radiator Fan Switch and the Coolant Temperature Sensor. The Radiator Fan Switch was no problem one 17mm wrench and five minutes of my time and it was done. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! managed to convince me I should change the Coolant Temperature Sensor as it might solve my cold idle issues. Should be easy right? NOPE!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

As you can see there is a bracket just above the CTS but I could still fit the 19mm deep socket under the bracket to remove it.

Kinja'd!!!

or so I thought. I was using a 3/8" drive 19mm deep socket to remove the CTS and then snap the old CTS split in two.

Kinja'd!!!

turns out the 3/8" drive 19mm deep socket was not deep enough to properly reach the nut part of the CTS. So off to Canadian Tire I go to buy a deeper 1/2" drive 19mm deep socket, now comes my next problem the 1/2" drive socket is about 3/4" longer than the 3/8" drive socket so it no longer fit under that metal bracket. The only way around it is to undo the fuel rail and move it out of the way taking out the injectors in the process.

Kinja'd!!!

Finally I was able to wiggle the 1/2" drive socket in place to tighten the new CTS in place. so now is reassembly I put the injectors back in put the fuel rail back on tightening one of the fuel rail bolts a 1/4 turn at a time because it's in one of the worst spots where I can't fit my fingers or a socket.

now everything is back together time to start it up so I can bleed the cooling system again(I did this yesterday when I changed the Thermostat) and gas was gushing out like I was looking at old faithful. One of the injectors was leaking like I've never seen before. so I disassemble the fuel rail again(one 2" long bolt a 1/4 turn at a time again) take out the injector that was leaking and what do I find?

Kinja'd!!!

The o-ring on the injector exploded. So I hop in my fusion and off to my shop I go (we sell some o-rings at my work) I get to the shop hoping that the o-ring was 2.5mm thick and not 2mm thick like I thought it was to the naked eye. so I whip out the calipers give it a measure and FOR FUCK SAKES! It's 2mm thick. The reason I was hoping it was 2.5mm is because we do not sell metric o-ring at my work but 2.5mm is the same thickness as a 3/32" o-ring that we have tons of.

So right now I'm at a standstill because of a $0.10 o-ring I'll have to order a handful of them from my supplier and get them on Tuesday.

total invested so far:

purchase price $1.00

Valve Cover Gasket $28.99

Thermostat $7.99

Over price premixed coolant from Gas Station $10.99

Radiator Fan Switch $37.99

Coolant Temperature Sensor $26.99

brings my total up to $113.95 and it's still not fixed.

I hope your guys day went better than mine.

When I do projects it's always the same. Fix something, go to store for tool, break something, go to store for part, cut my finger, go inside for sympathy (ususally a wasted trip), fix another thing, back to store for adhesive or tape or something equally ordinary that I never have enough of, etc...

Keep at it. I'm looking forward to the chapter where the missus finds out she was "just ok" and you come here for sympathy but only find advice on fixing your fuel injectors... LOL

It looks like we follow the same system for fixing stuff. I also left out the part where I had to go to three different part stores this morning to get the two sensors. in total I did 6 trips today and it's still not done.

I kid with my wife all the time even if she see's it she will get my sarcasm and be ok.
