I am amazed our resident GM fanboy and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! hasn't posted this yet, and nor has the person !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Because damn, this thing looks badass. Probably useless at anything resembling a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but nevertheless.

NO CHROME!!! THAT'S WHY!

Why does a local police force need this kind of equipment? What's wrong with the Impalas and Chargers and Crown Vics they run now?
That thing probably costs $5-10k more per vehicle. And the operating costs are stupendous. And they aren't that fast, and they aren't capable off-road, and they have Paddy-Wagons for prisoner transport.
So why do they need something like this?

Hauls more equipment.
Most police forces are 40-50% SUVs.

needs a real bull bar - but yeah its a handsome beast-

More room for equipment. Plus they just look sweet.

Because they're cavernous, that means they can hold much more stuff.
Plus, K-9 units always will appreciate larger vehicles.

It's for pushing cars, not running them over.

Nah. If you need bigger vehicle this works better

hey, it'd certainly make ending high speed chases easier.
![]() 09/06/2014 at 22:43 |

That is even more awesome.
And very, very expensive.

But they don't need it. If they are using this to haul drones, or riot gear, or M-16's - they don't need it.
It's reckless spending. Stick with what you have, keep the operating costs low and enjoy the efficiencies of scale. Don't go after one-offs 'cause they're cool.
My tax dollars aren't cool.

There are plenty of them as border patrol trucks and also here is michigan as state park rangers.

You can't cram all this in a Crown Vic.

They don't NEED new Caprices either. They could save your tax dollars and do their patrols in old Cavaliers.
That doesn't make it a good idea.

There's a middle ground between $50k+ police cars based on luxury vehicles and idiocy.

Tahoe=luxury vehicle?

Don't get me wrong, feel free to share. I just meant to answer your opening sentence.
Anyway, the old gen looks better.

I prefer the new one. I find the old one boring.

They stick leather and wood-grain in it and hawk it for north of $45k (average transaction price).
Seeing as that is FIFTY PERCENT MORE THAN MEDIAN, yeah, I'd call it luxury.

Dogs love trucks. Nissan said so.

Maybe I'll grow to like it once I see some PPVs in the flesh. I hated the Explorer Interceptors until I saw them with my own eyes, now I love 'em.

The PPV doesn't retain the leather and wood.
Remember, those are add-ons from the factory. The Tahoe itself is just a body-on-frame SUV, a Silverado wagon, if you will. There's nothing luxury about the Tahoe PPV. Remember, the current cop cars are available on the mass market as these 3:
