What is your car's closest equal model sharing similar mechanical components or brand engineering. Is it better or worse?
I guess for my C5 Avant Quattro it would be a Passat wagon 4 Motion with the 2.8 V6? Not sure.
For my W210 I guess it would be a Chrysler 300 right? Because it was the same chassis or something like that.
What about your cars OPPO?

B5 Passat is the closest to my B5 A4.

I like this game.
VW Phaeton/Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Though they're closer to the 2nd gen A8.

I always wondered about this. Do they share a chassis?
![]() 09/06/2014 at 16:26 |

(Sigh) This is going to a long post.
Chevrolet Chevelle/Malibu/Monte Carlo - Roughly Equal (depending on the motor)
Chevrolet El-Camino/GMC Sprint - Better (because usefullness)
Buick Skylark/GS/GSX/Sport Wagon - Worse (Buick motors have stupid external oil pumps and thin cylinder walls)
Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser and Cutlass Cruiser (Better because Wagon)
Oldsmobile 442/Cutlass S/Cutlass Supreme SX/Ram Rod - Roughly equal (depending on trim)
Pontiac Lemans/GTO/Grand Prix - Roughly Equal (depending on motor)
I cannot think of any more cars based of the GM (68-72) a-body atm.

I can't really say the Fusion is better than the MKZ but it is better at being a mid sized everyman car than the Lincoln is at mid sized luxury.

Mazda 2. And it is inferior because of no mazdaspeed version. If it had one, it could potentially be superior........MMMMMMMMMMM SUBCOMPACT WITH A TURBOCHARGER AND AN LSD.......*drooooooooooooooooool*

My Crossfire's closest cousin is the Mercedes Benz R170 SLK 320. The Crossfire is quicker, especially in SRT format. The SLK has less polarizing styling though I prefer the distinctiveness of the Crossfire.

Sigh.
My car's cousins are numerous since the Ford C1 platform was utilized a lot.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_C1_p…
But these are its favorites:
Contrary to popular belief, the pre-2012 U.S. Ford Focus was not on the same platform as the Mazda3. The 3 was always on the C1 platform and the old-gen U.S. Focus was on the older C170 platform.
My car is happy to have such nice cousins.

I believe they do share the same platform. Cf you want to take a closer look-see it's the Pl45. :)

My Skoda Superb estate shares a lot with it's Audi A6 Avant cousin. Both have their pros and cons with the Audi being more tuned for the road while the Skoda is very nice tourer and daily driver. The Skoda is cheaper and in my mind better equiped for all round use.

If someone gave me $350 I could do it and be making 310hp. There's a guy selling a supercharged 3800 with a blown block, but good tranny and heads. Combine that with my perfectly fine block and Robert is your relative.

Haha, the 2.0/1.8 (t) have to be some of the most used engines. Pretty good ones also.

Works out because the Stratus has the "sportier" (note the "s) parts. My hood, sway bar, strut tower brace, autostick dash/shifter and a few other bits couldn't be found by searching for Sebring. But if you search for Stratus instead - Ta-dah! (mine's an '06 so the headlights and grille got a facelift hence the little differences)
Also fun fact, the 2 door coupe Sebring and Stratus share 0 interchangeable parts with the Sedan/Vert. Why? Because they're basically Mitsubishi Eclipses.

I don't have 4 doors and don't have hydropneumatic suspension either, but this is my DD's cousin, as it's on the same platform and it shares some engines as well:
This is my toy's cousin:
And this is strongly related to my project. My project is a wagon though:
DD is a Peugeot 406 coupe, toy is a Peugeot 205 GTi, project is a six cylinder BMW E30 320i Touring.

Oddly, I believe the Mustang shares some parts of its platform with DEW98, so I guess the closest relatives would be the Lincoln LS, Jaguar S-Type, and '02-'05 Thunderbird, and a bit more distantly, the Jaguar XF.

My Mom drives an 06 Note. Same thing but slightly longer, uglier and worse. If only my dad had a 3rd gen Espace instead of a 4th gen, then I could say Avantime and Corvette lol.

Is that a fifth gen Camaro on the right? I wonder how much it cost to do that.

1994 Sable AIV, SHO powered Sable with an aluminum body. Sadly the wrong generation for parts swapping (though I've been told that the rear springs might work....).
![]() 09/06/2014 at 17:15 |
|
The GM a-body is one of my favorite chasis, they got a ton of variety out of it. Sure it wiggles like a wet noodle and doesn't have great front end geometry, but that is easily remidied with plentiful aftermarket parts.
The Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, ElCo/Sprint were long wheel base versions of the a-body called the g-body. The wagons were based off of a stretched wheelbase sedan, but it was still called the a-body. The convertibles ran on a boxed frame version.
The cars are not quite as similar as you'd think.
There are at least 4 different axles, Chevy 10-Bolt, Chevy 12-Bolt, BOP 10-bolt, and the Type O. Each division had their own small and big blocks aside from Pontiac, whose block design was shared across displacements. And they all had different interiors. Chevrolet and BOP used different bolt patterns for the trannies. The 442 had special sway-bars and different springs/shocks than the others.

Type 4 platform in the house!
SAAB 9000, Alfa Romeo 164, Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema. As you can see, I don't mind badge engineering. :)

My e38's only cousin is the e39. Both share a lot of drivetain and electronics with each other. Besides that the e38 doesn't have a luxury sport barge cousin.

2004 Sierra. Closest cousin: Silverado. Distant cousin? H2.
![]() 09/06/2014 at 17:51 |

Either the Nissan Primera/Infiniti G20 or Nissan NX2000. The Primera was a little bit heavier, and not all had LSDs, but the NX2000 is pretty much identical in terms of performance.
![]() 09/06/2014 at 17:53 |

The Z1 and to a smaller extent the e36 compact are cousins of my e30 and the contemporary (euro) Ford Focus and I believe Volvo S40 were cousins of my first gen Mazda3.

The Safari is cousins to the Astro, they're exactly the same other than the GMC and Chevy badges.
The 2nd gen Vue is platform mates with the Equinox and Torrent. It shared the 3.6L engine with the Torrent and eventually the Equinox sport. The Vue is better than both of them IMO because it's interior is lightyears ahead of both.
The GMT800 Silverado and the Sierra, which are the same other than the tail lights and front fascia.

yes on the S40 late 04 and up. E34 shared a lot of the e30's things but so did the e28. I owned a e28, 34, and 36 and I could bun some components from e30 on my 28 and 34 but not so much from 36

The g-bodies made after 79 were short wheel bases of the old a-body. The a-body designation was reassigned for a new fwd midsizes.
The original G-bodies (Monte Carlo and Grand Prix) were made around 68-72.
