Reposting for the day crowd. I've been casually looking for jobs and I found a valet job downtown at a hotel. Im sure there are some Oppo's that have been valet's before. Are they any big surprises in being a valet?
Have a GTR.

apply for a porter at a dealership.

Slightly off topic, but I wonder how many Opponauts here actually trust their car to a vallet? I don't want people I don't know driving my car when I'm not around and I have no control over it.

That's why cars with valet keys are awesome. So you want to take a joyride, eh? Won't be very thrilling with only 200 HP in a 3500 pound car.

Tips can be crap and it's not a never-ending stream of exotic cars for you to thrash up and down a parking garage.

It's not as gorious as you think. Yes exotic cars and the like but its stressful as hell, you don't get tipped that much these days, theres cameras everywhere so no joyrides and even in the garages you have to stop honk, repeat, repeat, repeat until ur out and even its not as much fun as you'd think so no

My FoST's tuner(Accessport) comes with a Valet tune for joyriders. ;)

I've never done it before, but I'd say you'd be better off finding a car dealer that needs a porter. same kinda work, but much more fun and probably easier money IMO.

My dad trusts valets because of two things:
1) Hong Kong is small and filled with traffic lights - possibility of joyriding is very small.
2) Only old valets are able to drive our car. Why? MANUÉL.

I did valet at a Hilton in downtown Austin a couple years ago when I was in college. My only motivation was to drive cool cars and get my jalop fix after classes. I was there for two months and drove only a handful of even halfway "interesting" cars. Be careful of what company (mine was Towne Park) you work for and where you will be located.
Most of the time I was running my ass off to grab a crap '02 Expedition for a customer that was not going to tip. The coolest cars? A '13 SL65, a '10 M3, and a rental Fiat 500. The majority? Trashed out rentals or domestics driven by people attending a conference that was hosted at the hotel. Soon I realized that $8/hr plus tips wasn't worth it and left. There are other stories but those are for another time.
In short: Worked valet, drove "cars", got paid almost nothing, and quit.

Is that something you can activate on a whim?

Unfortunately for my tuner, no. -_-
I'd have to take a couple minutes to change the map on the ECU; but it wouldn't be more than 5 minutes. I'd have to do it before arriving at Valet though, as it would be awkward sitting there waiting for it to change maps.
I think on the V3 version of the accessport you can change maps at will via the cruise control.

Making the valet wait 5 minutes watching you futz about taking preventative measures against him probably wouldn't be taken too well. He might even go on a joyride just out of spite at that point!
That V3 version sounds pretty awesome, actually. Never used cruise control anyway. :p

Valet Mode v106
o Boost Targets: Stock Settings
o Rev Limiter: 3000 RPM
o Speed Limiter: 35mph (56.3 kph)
What fun they'd have hehehe ;)

It only takes one guard rail. :(

True, but with such restrictions, if they don't know about the tune, they'll think they broke it and I can throw a fit lol. JK.
At least I'm lowering the odds as much as I can. I could put it in theft mode.

I had a valet gig in LA for a private valet company, and we worked mostly weddings and special events. By far better than working at a hotel. We'd park the rush, then while the wedding or whatever went on, we got to shoot the shit while people slowly trickled out. The hourly was pretty good too. Definitely a fun job, and I did it during college as well.
I usually don't like valeting my car, but if I have to, I will. I also tip ridiculous amounts sometimes because I know how much it means. Everything is put into perspective.
