I've always been rather disturbed by ads custom tailored for me. I bought a pair of shoes off 6pm a month ago and for 2 weeks straight, every other page I visited had an ad with those shoes in it.

There is a crazy story about this.

there was an article online about the murder of a young lady I believe. The murder involved a suit case.

On the articles website, the ads were featuring discounted suitcases. Bad idea. They got in trouble.

Someone posted this (the GoTenna, a cell range extender/off network antenna, for, you know, when you're in a remote Utah canyon and can't, uh, prank call your buddies) on Facebook: I clicked on it once and now it is every ad in Chrome and on my phone too. Yea!

I've never understood how targeted ads like that are any better... You already own the shoes. If you like them, you won't need to be reminded to buy them. If you don't, why would you buy them again, regardless of an ad?
