Some people think that the Japanese haven't invented or innovated anything important in terms of technology, ever. And it's driving me mad.

Some arse on YouTube who claims the I400 submarine was useless because it was too big and easy to detect from land.
Like what?
There's something stopping submarines from being detected from land. Can you guess what it is?
THE SEA.
Then he goes on about how the Japanese aren't innovators, haven't made anything important or significant yadda yadda bullshit bullshit—

China / Hong Kong problems.
I have a friend who spent a year in China, and doesn't know anything about Japan. His mind is continually blown every time I mention one of their technological achievements, as if it was really that hard to believe. He got "stupid angry upstart island nation" hammered into his brain next to the word "Japan".

I don't tend to recognize youtube commentors as "people".

Dont worry. Westerners have longsince moved to the Chinese.

I hate 9/10 Japanese cars and even I don't spout that kind of crap. Credit due where it's deserved.

That's your problem. You said youtube. Youtubers are among the worst type of degenerate found on the internet, after 4Chan and Gawker of course.

yeah most people in the car world are glued to the over used phrase "german engineering" Stubborn ebogh to completely ignore and shun everything else. That is what happens when you believe everything the fictional TV show Top Gear says.
I believe every automotive nation has contributed significantly to development. And they are all great.

How many times do we have to tell you, TwinCharged? Don't talk to this guy about cars, it never ends well!

it's not too bad. First job I did on my Audi was the timing chain tensioner gaskets. On that 2.8 V6, I had to pull the cams out and everything. But I got it done in about 6 or 7 hours.
There was a lot of "why the fuck did they do that" moments on some things. Enthusiasts love that "German engineering" but that only applies when it is beneficial, most of the times it is not.
I was a Lexus master tech, nothing could top the way Toyota pays attention to the components that matter as far as longevity is concerned. A little less power just means they will kickass for much longer. I can tell you some incredible WTF engine stories at my current job (which consists or Sweden, England, and Germany) Awesome cars yes but quite rediculous after that 60k mile mark. Something I never saw at Lexus. But these enthusiasts and their love for ultra boosted engines. It is like sugar to the human body, the beetus will kick in eventually
