I stopped in to work for a couple hours today, yes on a 3-day weekend, and got a call from my gf crying her eyes out. I calmed her down enough for her to say she'd been sitting in a chair with her cat, tried to get up, picked up the cat and whacked its arm on the wood arm of the chair. I HOPE I DIDN'T BREAK HER LEG!!!
This went on for a while. I said I would call her vet's after hours number and find out what to do. I offered to conference her in with the vet, but she was too distraught to even listen in on the conversation. I suggested she get some wet food for the cat and see if she comes out from under the bed.
So I called the vet. Who basically said if the cat doesn't go hide for hours, and can put weight on that foot, she's probably fine. Just keep an eye out for any limping.
Called the gf back, and lo and behold the cat had already come out from the bed, ate the wet food, and wasn't limping. She kind of slinked around the corner and downstairs but appears to be none the worse for the wear.
Gf will now commence with trying to chillllllllll now that she knows she didn't hurt the cat.
At this point the cat is probably just like, whatever, I'm fine.

The cat was probably only hurting for like half a second before putting it out of it's mind forever.

Our track record with my Mom, her car, and our cats dispute that theory. I've I also discovered my dogs determination and concentration skills, due for her hatred of cats.

Are you dating an eight year old? Why couldn't she handle this herself? My three year old has more composer and self reliance than your gf. Unless she's mentally handicapped in which case I apologize as I phone the authorities.

She's an adult with a stressful job, who has a lot on her mind since she's having surgery next week, and really cares about her cats. She can certainly be forgiven for having a minor meltdown.

Hey don't be so cross. My wife has been a workin' self-reliant whoa-maaaahn since she was 15, but dammit if she doesn't call me every few months for an urgent-non-emergency. That's what partners are for sometimes <3
