I get you want to play your sim racer with a big fancy screen and nice seat and an expensive wheel but come on guys. At the end of the day you could buy a spec miata and campaign it for three seasons for less than this.

I would just buy a supercar with that money, lol.

but how many races a week do you get if you do a legit campaign?

and driving to track, and all day event, and you can't just race at night after the kids are in bed.

expensive yes, but sims have their place, you know actual racers use sims too to learn new tracks etc

if you bought a spec miata or mustang and raced it for 3 seasons, you will be a better driver than if you bought this

That's the thing, it's practice for the real thing, not to replace the real thing. You wanna toss $300 at a wheel and $500 at a nice monitor, Maybe another $500 at building a rig fine. But 125,000 pounds is frickin ridiculous. I could actually go out and get my adrenaline going and feel the forces of my car moving shift me around. This is either someone with way too much money that already has a ton of cool cars or someone with really messed up priorities.

right, good chance this is sitting just off to the side of a 18 car garage that also features immaculate wood flooring

He gets to 'drive' a lot more cars than just a Miata though, and on a lot more tracks.

bu-bu-but then they might have to go OUTSIDE and TALK TO PEOPLE and lord knows Redditors can't handle that.

Source: met a friend through flag football, all his friends were Reddit meetup people. IT WAS SO PAINFUL.

No he gets to hold a motorized wheel and turn some pontentiometers with a little resistance while he watches a camera move around a track. I am not saying people shouldn't spend any money on sim racing. Spend a couple grand if you want but this is ridiculous.

just remember not everyone has the guts to get out on track. In sim racing when you crash you just hit the reset button.

I'm starting to wonder if all the people who think they get more for their money with sim racing just suffer from agoraphobia.

Can anyone enhance and clarify the image right below the helmet on the screen? I'm curious who this is. There will be a name there.

He can afford 125,000 pounds he can afford to take a Miata to an autocross. When he crashes there all he has to do is get the orange streaks off his paint.

As someone invested in sim racing I can tell you I have no real desire to do autocross. Unless I can put it in 5th gear it is all meh to me.

Kinja'd!!!5

You see that's the problem. People who play sims and videogames don't know what it actually feels like to drive in an autocross because you can't feel the force of the car and realize even first and second gear are exciting.

This is why I enjoy Forza so much. IRL, I have a 12-year-old limited production hot hatch - an SVT Focus with hard-to-find or discontinued parts, that needs money for gas, insurance, safety gear, and if I wreck or break it too hard may not work ever again or I could suffer the same fate.

>>>>>I'm not saying play Forza is anywhere near the real thing, or that it's a replacement for it. Something like this is best used as practice when one is not out on the track. <<<<<

That said, in Forza I have access to basically limitless money so budget is irrelevant. I can drive nearly any car that suits my mood or is specially tuned for a certain series or track so I'm always competitive. And if I get tired, bored, or have something else I need to do, I can always not play the game and I am not missing an important points event. The game will be right where I left it when I do come back.

If could afford 125k British Pounds on a sim-racing setup I would certainly be out doing it For Realz, Yo instead. But given my much, much, much more modest budget I might choose to invest a couple grand in a basic racing setup instead of going to every Auto-X event that I possibly can and risk ruining my only mode of transport.

I'm not against sim racing or saying everyone should be racing. I'm just saying if you have 125,000 pounds to spend on a sim racing setup then you should just be out there doing it. Honestly though this guy probably is out there racing, he just has so much extra cash that dropping that much money on a sim rig is just a drop in the bucket.

I did say 'drive' in quotation marks.

Everyone needs a hobby. Sure, he pays a lot more for his than most sane people would. It's not like he's out beating hookers to death with a bat and then doing coke off their still-twitching boies.

You could probably buy a seat for one season of British Formula Ford for the price of that sim garbage. In my opinion, without the ass in the seat, sims are pointless for anything other than casual gaming. Learning a new track is about the only thing they have going for them.

I'd love a setup like this at home... But my triple monitor setup is enough for me for now...

And yes, I'm pretty sure this guy can afford quite a bit more than a few miata seasons if he wants to :)

Agreed, in fact the left wall is made of glass and looks like it may have a garage door on the other side.
