Opponauts, I need some help. I cracked a fuel line in my CRX and it's leaking. I'd like to get this fixed ASAP. Here's the route:
Plastic line running through cabin>metal line in wheel arch (cracked)>weird coupler thing*>rubber line>metal line>fuel filter...
Weird coupler thing pictured below.
What I'd like to do is attempt to run a rubber line from the plastic line in the cabin straight to the filter. But I don't know if the weird coupler thing is just a coupler or some kind of super important valve or bottleneck or something. It's obviously rusted to crap, and it's going to be tricky to replace if I have to.
What do you think? Can I just cut it out of there, or do I have to try to replace it?
EDIT: This is in the right rear wheel arch. Should have clarified that.

That's aggressive rust the likes of which I haven't seen in a while. Not papering, not feathering - whole crystal loss. It probably isn't anything more important than an anti-backflow valve or similar - I don't think there's anything you'll damage removing it, and if you autopsy it you might be able to tell what it is.

no idea, I went and had a look and could see nothing, in the engine bay at least, in my Civic that seems similar. but it's a 2000, so possibly I'm not much help

No, it's in the rear, by the tank. I should have clarified that.

Anti-backflow sounds likely. I hadn't even considered that. And yeah, the rust in general is far worse than I thought when I bought the car. I'm going to fix this fuel line and sell it. I'm not equipped for this level of resto.

It reminds me of the air suspension system and other parts under a '95 Range Rover County that had been driven winters in upstate NY. Break-off-in-your-hands "sharp" crystal rust. I like southern rain rust more if I've got to pick a kind - that way it settles in low areas and just pits whole panels lightly over time.

It's an '87 Si. This isn't my car, (I wish it was) but the fitting is right up under the bodywork where the arrow is pointing.
If you have any links to said diagrams, I'd be quite appreciative. :)

I think so, though it looks a little different in person. But maybe that's because it's bent.
