Sorta like the cold water challenge for people in northern states, either jump in a lake or donate x amount to charity, seems like everyone was just jumping in lakes for facebook likes.

Surprisingly yeah. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/enough-with-th…

Most people dont acknowledge the option of doing both. Which is what many do.

Eh I kind of get it. Its a bunch of people showing how much they care by not donating. Great PR idea for ALS, but the people doing it themselves are idiots and just want to look like a good person on social media

You didnt read what I posted, did you? Last year this time they received $22,000. This year they received $1.35 million. That is no coincidence. This is great for money, amazing for awareness, which is fantastic for any non-profit.

I know some people are hating on it in California because they are having such a bad drought, and people were using potable water. They think its a good cause, just a really bad use of water [assuming they are using potable water].

Most of that money is probably coming from the celebrities that are doing it. I doubt the people on my timeline who've done it have donated anything, I'm not against it I'd rather see people actually donate instead of just dumping water on themselves.

Even if a person doesn't donate, they spread publicity to others who might.

Although I do think it is a little silly, one thing it definitely did was raise awareness. Half my friends (keep in mind I'm a teenager) didn't even know what ALS was and had to google it to understand. So it worked in that sense.

I did, you didn't read mine - "great PR idea for ALS". Its good that it is driving donations, doesn't change the fact that most of these people doing the ice thing are attention seeking jackwagons. Ask half of them to explain what the disease is and they probably can't give you more than a sentence or two. I hate the people not the concept.

Why do people hate ice water? I would dump it on myself just for fun. Seems like a stupid way to raise money but if it works who cares. If I were trying to raise money I would have a vote system and it costs $1 to vote and say we vote Elvis Presley he has to resurrect himself and get a bucket of water dumped on him. All the money goes to charity except maybe we could pay for a towel.
OR
and this is a crazy idea here. Why dont we just donate money because it helps people? CRAZY!
