Sorry for the potato pic. A friend spotted this late '30s or '40s murdered out something or other. Any ideas?

its an olds series 60 or 70. these louvres are very indicative of a 1940

You had it as '39 but changed it, but after looking them up I think '39 is actually right. Doesn't look like they had the vents in 40

I actually think its a custom, thats why its so hard to date. I think its a 4o with a 39 hood. the 39 didnt have the headlights built in to the fenders, the 4o did
