Project is still a little rough around the edges cosmetically, but at least I was able to do this on the cheap. The charger is completely hidden, so I can always change the grippy pad/magnets without having to pull the thing out of the dash again. I've wanted to do this project for most of this past year, so I'm glad I at least got this far...

That's awesome.
Like, really.

There's enough metal in the Nexus to hold it to the dash with magnets? I'm impressed.

had no idea it was pronounced "chee". Seriously, I worked at Verizon for years and never heard anyone say the name so I just assumed it was "Q - I". Learn something new every day.
Also I remember seeing somewhere a fuse tap to usb conversion where you'd have an add-a-fuse, make a ground wire then plug the usb in so it was a neat, always on when vehicle is on option.

I was a bit surprised too, but I had some hard drive magnets on my fridge (one of which is in the install, you can see the crescent in the top center) and it could hold my phone on the fridge. So I gave it a shot and ordered some coin magnets on Amazon.

It took me a good couple months, mostly because I'd only read about it. Although my inner monologue called it "Q-I" as well. Had to change my habits.
There is plenty of space behind the console when I pulled it from the dash, so I have thought about a hidden power source. The Subaru's 12v sockets shut off with the ignition so I could simply splice off that and run it alongside the stereo.

I'm looking to do this same type of mod myself. In the Magnum, there's a little cubby next to the shifter that is the *perfect* size for my S3. I'm thinking about taking the cubby out, and mounting the wireless charger in the space next to it inside the console area, powering it from the outlet that's in the armrest cubby. Same basic idea though.
The amount of times I'm coming home from a show and my phone battery is dead is ridiculous because i never really remember to just plug it in....
