Burnouts and Ride-Alongs In The New Challenger Hellcat

A friend of mine, a journalist for Motor Authority, got his hands on the new Dodge Challenger Hellcat yesterday. However Dodge had sent him the car without any tread left on the tires. So he called up Dodge and they said they'd overnight some tires to the local dealership. In the meantime however, he had 707HP and some old tires to play with.

After a few phone calls and a Facebook post inviting anyone to come down and watch, some friends at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! let us use the back of their shop to dispose of the old tires in the best of ways. At around 7:30, a bunch of local car enthusiasts gathered around the shop gazing at the pre-production Challenger and snapped tons of photos. Shortly after, the Dodge drove to the back of the shop and we all gathered around anxious to see the smoke.

After all the GoPros were set up, the Quadcopter was in the air everyone had their cameras ready, the show began. Smoke, noise and rubber filled the air as the tires faded away.

After a couple runs, it was time to let the car cool down so we all crowded around the back of the car where the remains of tire stood. Then after about a 30 minute break, it was back for a few more burnouts. The car sounded amazing and made for some great shots through all the smoke.

After all the haze cleared and most everyone had left, a few people were left wandering around the shop and admiring the Challenger more. My friend then asked if any of us wanted to take a ride, even with nearly no tread left on the tires. I, along with a few others, gladly accepted and we blasted down the road outside the shop. The sound of the 6.2 was glorious and louder in the cabin than I was expecting (Not necessarily a bad thing). This particular car was equipped with the ZF 8 Speed auto which I was surprised how quick and smooth the shifting was.

In short, it was a great way to spend a Friday evening. Thanks again to the driver and 503 Motoring for making this happen!
