Any Kingdom Hearts fans here? I just played Chain of Memories for PS2 all over again and had some massive feels. Currently waiting on the 2.5 ReMix and KH3... ugh

Never played it but I love that they mashed up so many things into these games from what I hear!

Bitch, I played that shit O.G.:
Motherfucking pixels and cards .
KH2 was a major disappointment for me (great story, great plot... terrible, boring, EXTREMELY easy gameplay, no sense of wonder that made the first game so good), and the sheer bullshit and length of time it took for them to show that they were actually proceeding with the real, main story (during which they kept releasing video games for platforms I didn't own ) left me disillusioned from the franchise. By the time they delivered with an announcement for KH3.
Had they properly marketed Birth by Sleep as Kingdom Hearts 3 and had it on the PS3, or (perhaps as KH0 or something to signify that it was a prequel), I feel that they would have seriously kept a lot of fans like me.
(but seriously, was I the only one who found KH2 to be one of the easiest games ever made?)

They got a bit of Final Fantasy and mostly Disney into it.

Hmmm...yeah KH2 definitely was kind of easy.
I never owned a gameboy advance. I knew of Kingdom Hearts since 2006, but didn't actually play it until 2011. The story line is what interests me, but the other thing is the music. The fucking music is beautiful.

I played KH1 as the first title I got for the PS2. I cannot express to you how amazing the graphics in that intro video looked at the time, or how revolutionary the battle system or tutorial/dream stage at the beginning was. This is also in particular to a culture that had not yet had the Japanese invasion into our culture yet, that I solely blame KH for bringing.
When KH1 came out, only people who had played FF7 really "got" RPGs, and they were either casuals who didn't pay attention or they were kids who were deeply influenced, but didn't have anyone else to really share it with, because they forced their parents to buy the game for them because of what some kid around the block told them. KH1 sparked the entire influence of Japanese culture in the US, because it was the first RPG that parents bought for their kids , because it featured Disney Characters. They scanned the list of games sitting on the racks at target (before they started putting up glass plates) and picked out the one that looked like it had safe Disney characters, because at that time everyone was worried about "teen" violence influencing video games, KH came at the perfect time for that. There's a reason it sold so well in the US. While FF7 ultimately sold more copies, KH had far more copies that were being sold to people who had never played a good Japanese video game before, excluding Super Mario. In some way, the reason why AE86 prices are so high, Anime is so prevalent in children's TV, and Manga can be bought at a comic book store is because of that influence.
That being said, the storyline and characterization always fascinated me but it was agony waiting for the payoffs "What was Mickey doing? What is the city in Deep Dive? How did Riku and Sora get out of Castle Oblivion, where would they go next? Who is Roxas? What the fuck was going on in KH2's ending video?!" By the time they answered most of those questions, those people who were first introduced had grown up, gone to college, and weren't interested anymore.
I never got into the music, mostly because I came from Armored Core, where the music has always been fucking amazing . This was music on a PS1 Armored Core Game:
So I was already well-introduced to a game that had extremely diverse and epic background music well in advance. It wasn't the same kind of music (Electronic VS orchestral) but it was still a huge way to demonstrate that Music can seriously affect the quality of a game. Given that they didn't have 1000 disney theme songs to go off of or a huge budget (...or ANY budget...) it's arguably more admirable that they produced so many great soundtracks.
There are 14 games in the AC series alone, not counting spin-offs and alternate platforms. It's pretty much the exact polar opposite of Kingdom Hearts in every way possible, and I love it.
