...who doesn't like it when people put newer stock rims on an older model?
EDIT: Turns out, I am. :)
Examples below.

Not bad

You might be, OEM+ is the way to go. I've wheels from a 2004 A8 on my 2001 S4

The Chevy looks the same, the Dodge look silly and the Jeep looks good.
What about when people put older factory wheels on newer models? (I have no examples of this)

I'll admit that Jeep doesn't look too bad (probably because Jeep wheels are so evolutionary that it almost looks natural).
The '94-'01 Rams with '02 and newer 20s just look wrong, though.

They look really out of place, just like Passat CC wheels on anything other than a CC.

the GM ones bug me a little...I guess.

These look good

I quite like it actually.

They dont look bad

The Jeep looks great in my opinion. We had an older Ford Mondeo and fitted newer Ford Focus alloys to it, improved it a lot. If done tastefully I approve of this practice.

for my own part, I have these wheels from a 2003+ Civic on my 96+ Civic. They are 16s instead of the stock 14s, and I think being OEM they look perfect. to me its about adding a little more size while looking like they belong
now, clearly you are a truck guy and I'm more into cars, but I think the philosophy is sound. I suspect we may both at least be able to agree that newer OEM wheels are better than just throwing on random aftermarket wheels?

Not really more of a truck guy versus car guy, I just tend to see it more on trucks. I think I mostly just prefer to leave wheels stock. :)

Bolt right on

Sorry, my dad did just that to his Lexus, andit looked great.

I know you already found out you're the only one, but the Jeep and the Suburban look great.
As for the Ram....no, they are too big for it.

stock!? you mad crazy man! ...whose speedometre would remain accurate, tyre costs lower, able to align suspension back to factory spec, larger sidewalls would increase drive comfort...

I think it looks pretty dope on Fox bodys, especially with some SVT wheels

OEM+

I think they look fine as long as they are close to the same diameter as the OE wheels. Maybe within 2" or so of stock? Putting 19" wheels on a car that came with 15"s looks tacky to me.

Not just you. I hate it, especially on GM trucks. Never looks right.

You're one of the only ones... I think newer stock rims installed on an older model look great because the brand name matches and the styles usually match as well.
Not bad, honestly.

I totally respect your opinion, but I think that looks awful.
![]() 08/08/2014 at 22:41 |

Well, it isn't a very good example, but each to their own

Yep, totally respect your and others opinions, just not attractive to me. Luckily, we have the freedom to do whatever we want to our vehicles and no one is right or wrong. :)

No, I actually agree!! With very few exceptions to the rule, an older car with wheels from the newer model looks like a trashy attempt at pretending to have traded up, to my eye.
