So I have a 3 day weekend coming up. Where am I going?
Starting point: Columbia, SC.
Goals: 1. Good driving roads ; 2. Solitude.

I would take some back roads into the Pisgah National Forest, and maybe hang out in and around Boone for a bit.

Asheville, NC. But only take 2 lane roads to get there.

Come to the finger lakes region of NY, amazing B-roads but probably too far for you.

Land Rover Driving School does sound tempting.

I'll probably get flak for this after all the FP hate for Virginia but if you head up north try to pass through Great Falls, VA. Beautiful mountain roads and great scenery. The houses you'll pass are just gorgeous too if you like architecture.
But if I had a long weekend I'd go north, maybe spend a few days in the Hampton's or the Finger lakes. New Hampshire/Connecticut looks nice too although I've never been.

I just really like the town of Asheville.
Probably one of the best kept secrets of the east coast... and if you can't find a good driving road in the North Carolina Appalachians, you're blind.

agreed. I love this town. 2-3 hours from here.
