I fixed this hole... With an arc welder and galvanized steel. I ran out of wire for the MIG and didn't want to go out. I don't think it turned out too bad... This post could also be called "I'm damn good at making sketchy body work look good."

It doesn't matter as long as it worked.

Thanks! it was frustrating though. Kept burning through until I got the hang of it.

Thanks! it was frustrating though. Kept burning through until I got the hang of it. It is actually easier for me to arc weld thin metal than mig weld it. I have so much more practice with an arc welder (but I still am bad).

I'm miles better with a mig welder. Tried arc welding my exhaust and ended up with a ton of burn-throughs. Got frustrated so I just covered the holes with a couple layers of aluminium tape.

I hate welding galvanized - aside from being really toxic it smells fucking awful. Good job though. Looks 100x better.

Good job! But please tell me you either outside when welding or wore a mask to prevent breathing the fumes. Galvanized is terrible for you. Just some pain old sheet metal with weld-through primer on the back is a better option. Seriously, good job though.

I had body damage in a similar spot on my college whip - a '95 2dr Blazer. I had to recreate the body line, that's damn near a pinch weld, that GM stamped at the top of the rockers - with bondo. I will never forget that geometric nightmare...

Outside with a mask. The galvanized was given to me for free. I didn't have any normal steel lying around.

I know that pain! I got the body line by shaping the steel on the front tire :D There were rusted out supports and welds everywhere! The truck is my beater for winter and whenever I'm not using my T/A, I want too worried how good the repair looked.
