Since this stuff, "supposedly dissipates heat up to 500 times greater than a traditional heatsink using fins," on cpu's and gpu's, imagine covering the outside of an air cooled engine with it instead of fins.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:28 |

But fins look awesome.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:28 |
|
Yes, yes they do.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:29 |
|
Could we make fins out of that?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:30 |

I would like some of that implanted discretely somewhere on my body so I dont sweat in church.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:31 |

I think that would defeat its own purpose, but why the hell not?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:32 |

Im going wrap myself in it so I can be 500 times more cool...
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:32 |

looks like an official accessory for the BMW i8

I think the problem is that it would be far more fragile than air-cooled fins, even more fragile than those thin radiator fins, which any piece of road debris (or errant finger) can permanently bend and reduce the functionality of the radiator.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:34 |

Sweet. Now how do we attach the copper foam fins to the engine?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:35 |
|
Hot glue?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:36 |
|
Flat bottom under tray to shield the motor from debris and don't touch it wrong?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:37 |
|
It would melt like a dildo in a campfire.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:38 |
|
Hmm. Think of the refrigeration possibilities...
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:38 |
|
What the glue? then use scotch tape
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:39 |

I wonder how that would look inside my hood scoop. I'm thinking it would either look like pubes or nose hair (I would totally use it though to avoid heat soak).
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:40 |
|
It would break like a condom.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:41 |
|
Well then you could have copper foam babies... Right?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:43 |
|
They'd be great until they got filled with dirt and oil.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:43 |
|
No you would have a engine that is overheating and broken.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:43 |
|
CP. Would not hoon.
Literally. Crack pipe.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:43 |
|
But my momma always told me babies come from broken condoms...
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:44 |
|
They also come from no condoms.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:45 |

But Jesus said...
(I actually have no clue what Jesus said. Someone who's not religiously ignorant fill in here for me)
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:46 |

He said "Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing."
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:48 |

It's the truth. Im not even usually remotely sure as to what day it is.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:49 |
|
It is Wednesday.

The foam structure could be more resistant to efficiency losses from deformation since its structure is less uniform. The stands probably act like little springs too.
Fun fact, human hair (especially facial/pubic) has mechanical properties very close to copper wire of the same diameter.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:51 |
|
Yea but which Wednesday, next Wednesday or last Wednesday?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:52 |
|
The Wednesday you suck serious dick.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:53 |

Hey now, Richard Cranium has not been over for a visit in some time now.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:55 |
|
The Wednesday you eat a fruit flavored dildo.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:56 |
|
They make edible dildos?
![]() 07/30/2014 at 19:57 |
|
Anything is edible.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 21:14 |
|
I...
What.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 22:40 |
|
Given the amount of grime I wirebrushed/pressure washed off my engine I see this getting clogged very quickly. Unless you add a giant air filter.
![]() 07/30/2014 at 22:55 |
|
I've handled a version of this stuff and it is not as very fragile at all, not as storong as fins obviously, but you could squeeze it in you hand and not deform it
![]() 07/30/2014 at 23:18 |
|
Can I just glue these on everything?
![]() 07/31/2014 at 13:28 |

Get on this engineers.
![]() 07/31/2014 at 21:26 |

I don't want to ever have to clean the cat hair out of that.
![]() 07/31/2014 at 21:26 |

Don't get a cat!
![]() 07/31/2014 at 21:45 |

Wouldn't it need to be placed in the sweaty bits? Ouch.
![]() 07/31/2014 at 21:51 |
|
Sorry, couldn't help it.
![]() 07/31/2014 at 22:11 |

Yeah it looks really itchy. i have no idea where it would go.
![]() 07/31/2014 at 22:23 |
|
That's OK. Feel free to keep it to yerself, once you get it worked out.
Please.
![]() 07/31/2014 at 22:28 |

I will post photos for science.

No need to apologize. It was perfection!

Aw, shucks. Thanks. You, sir, are obviously a scholar & a gentleman.
