Kinja'd!!!

A couple of kittens have taken up sanctuary in the spare tire compartment of my car and I have no idea what to do with them.

Wait, no. That's not it at all.

I feel like my catalytic converter is holding me back. It's old, it's getting clogged, and in a state with no emissions and plenty of people rollin' coal so I honestly don't feel bad for murdering the polar bears by not having one.

My question is: will taking a crowbar/ice pick/sharp object and jabbing my catalytic converter until most of the honeycomb is missing alter my exhaust note much, and will it affect economy/power? Keep in mind I already have a rear o2 sensor delete.

I'm not worried about air turbulence in the jagged remains of the converters guts because I need the backpressure. The rest of my system is so free-flowing I fear that without at least some turbulence in the converter there won't be any backpressure whatsoever.

Put the cats on craigslist or at your local grocery store in a box with a sign saying free

Er, bashing chunks through the center of the cat is not really a good idea. You'll get uneven heating and weirdness, not to mention whatever turbulence (which wouldn't be much). There'll always be something you missed, which will then work loose and rattle. And promote rust. You're really probably best off with a cat replacement pipe, if you can get one.

Meanwhile, I DD a diesel, and my other two cars average 50 years old.

Bash it out until you think you're done, then bash out more. Keep bashing and pulling until you get a wire mesh. Pull that wire mesh out and voila! Cleaned cat.

You're straight piped already after the cat? How do you deal with the drone?

It just doesn't bother me that much. And it's not entirely straightpiped, there is a glasspack on there to tone things down a bit, but there is still drone.

I would just like to say that because I am lazy I only saw the pre-jump paragraph about kittens and reading your suggestion horrified me.

Or remove the cat, buy a test pipe, and scrap the cat for more than you paid for the test pipe.

But that involves welding, which I'm shit at and I just lost access to my one friend with a welder :(

How much would it cost for a muffler shop to weld a cheap pipe in?

Oh, never mind then.

What!? Find a different muffler shop - a local garage, not a chain. $40 in cash off the books should get the job done. This has been my experience, YMMV.

Just clamp in a section of pipe/glasspack and sell/scrap the cat.

Gutting the cat will leave you with a section of your exhaust system that is larger in volume than the rest and cause turbulence and uneven exhaust flow. If it is clogged and old, then it might provide a marginal performance gain if you gut it, but getting rid of it will be much better.

Truthfully, you'll gain the most performance by replacing the stock pipes.

It is easy enough to relocate your oxygen sensors by yourself, then take it into a shop and have them bend you some true duals.

It cost me $200 for a local shop to bend me a full true-dual exhaust system with some off the shelf glasspacks.

I've already hacked up most of my system. From the downpipe I have 2"I.D pipe that goes through the cat, then through a glasspack, then a straight shot out the back. Unfortunately when I welded in the glasspack I had the help of a friend with welding experience and an arc welder, but he has since moved away so I have no way to do it on my own and I have about... $20 to work with, which would buy me a section of pipe from O'Reilly's, but that's about it. :(

Pop a resonator in before the muffler, that'll reduce the drone. Worked on my old GTP.
