There are a lot of the new muscle cars, sportscars, and supercars that people are buying and hoping that they'll be worth more in the future. Many are offered with manual transmissions, however the speculators are buying the automatic or dct, because they can't or don't want to drive a manual. Now look at the auction scenes and you'll see a definitive trend, cars equipped with manuals go for much more money. Therefore, if you're buying a car as an investment, take the manual transmission.

this is the trend I'm seeing with used exotics that came in either manual or flappy paddle

Model matters most , then transmission

There is a premium for stick but those cars aren't appreciating as fast as special editions, if when the special edition was flappy paddle

Example: there is a bit of a premium for the rare 599 stick, but the 599 GTO has gone up a lot more in the last year than the base car with the stick

That's because first gen SMGs and DCTs were made by wizards who didn't entirely know how they worked, so no one can fix them when they break. Manuals built by humans will work forever, which skewed the surviving population in the manual's favor, thus making them worth more.

Should have stuck with making three pedal manuals, you dumb brilliant wizards.

I agree with you on principal. But it's not what's happening in reality.

The rare model trumps the rare transmission, so far.

Take the F430 as well. Not many manual F430s running around, especially the last two years. They demand a $10-15K premium.

But the F1-only Scuderia has gone up $20-30K just in the last year! People care about the rare model more than the transmission (so far).

Totally agree on the wizards part. I actually have a story that proves what you said.

Second thought: If you are buying a car as an investment, go find a financial adviser and spend that money elsewhere

Yup, the people who bought a Ferrari California or 599 with a manual transmission are sitting on gold mines. Practically no one bought the manual versions, so those will be collectible someday.
