This Mustang is a 1964 1/2 Fastback. My friend's grandmother has had it for over 30 years and it's just sitting in their garage. It sadly has a blown engine, but it would make an amazing restoration project. I hope some day my friend will come to his senses and restore the damn thing.

Make them an offer, using how much storage space they'll gain (and that it looks like they need as they are using it as a shelf). Pull it out, give it a quick clean it up and re-list it (or keep it and restore?) Where's it located? I'm getting kinja'd when trying to expand the picture to look at the plate.

I know how you feel. At my in-laws, there's a '67 mustang fastback sitting in a [slowly sinking] garage. It belongs to someone in another state, who doesn't plan on returning, and the uncle who take care if the land doesn't want anyone to look at it, :(

You're technically right, in the sense of model years. 1964 1/2 means it was a '65 model produced in the summer of 64. First models had minor cosmetic and mounting differences (smaller auto trans shifter handle, for example). 1964 1/2 refers to the VERY first mustangs, generally worth a tidy sum more if restored properly.
1964 1/2 is a common reference name. I don't mean to toss down your knowledge, but there's always more to learn

oh I knew all that but no fastbacks were 1964 1/2s they didn't start fastbacks till a little later so they had none of that stuff in it

No '64 1/2 fastbacks...
But I'd get that car the hell out of there. Give it to me! I'll restore it or myself! They clearly do not care about it and could use that extra space. :)
