I've been there. Had a spring fail and fly across the garage and hit me in the leg. Hurt like a SOB

Had one fail. No spring fling; it all stayed in place. But take my advice and get a professional to install the new one...

Cable the springs, it makes them a bunch safer.

When one of my springs snapped the pulley on one end, it did this to the bracket on the other end before flying across the garage. The replacement spring and all the others got cabled after that.

mine are torsional springs, so they are contained by the bar they rotate around
