what are these worth. Weren't they relatively rare? As in they were all buried in some landfill?

They printed a lot of cartridges (4 million if memory serves right) the buried whatever didnt sell. Not sure how many made it to consumers but I don't think they're super rare or anything.

They were somewhat valuable, but they found the landfill recently. So I'm not sure how that changed value.

They just dug all the buried ones out of the landfill, so there's a lot more around now.

they printed more cartridges than consoles at the time. About 250000 more I think. And the game was awful and didn't sell, hence landfill.

Know how sometimes something can be more valuable for the anecdotes?
Well, unsold E.T. and a lot of other stuff was taken to the landfill since that was the easiest way to clear the backlog. Since it's not something a company really wants to admit to, it remained a rumor for decades until recently confirmed at ridiculous cost (probably to be recouped by the TV special)
So, no.. you can collect it for a dollar all day at used junk shops, and it sucks as a game. Loose cart, that is. Any game with a good box and instructions is going to cost a bit more..
What they're going to do with the landfill ones, though, unknown. Done right we can have an affordable piece of 80's nerd intrigue. Or they'll have a warehouse full of overpriced dirty crushed Atari boxes till they decide it's cheaper to put them back.
Would I buy a "mint" one from their pile, with certificate of authenticity?
$9.95 for a loose cart, $40 for a set of 6 in a shipping box.
Past that and good luck.

Its rarity is a 1 on a scale of 10. It is common, and not valuable.
