So, I just found out that the ONLY dealer willing to sell me the Juke NISMO RS with the family+friends Nissan discount plan ($1500 off the price of the car) also just so happens to have a markup of $2200 on the car, bringing the price of the (configured on the Nissan website) $27,400 juke to $29,600. This is bullshit. complete, utter bullshit.

So, is there any way to get around the markup? I am buying the car in cash (all at once). Can I use that to bargain down the price to just about MSRP?

Dealer markups are a hilarious joke. When I got my GT-R there was a stupid markup on it and the guy said there was nothing he could do. I politely told him to eat balls, please and thank you, and started to walk out. He then basically tripped over his own feet doing anything he could to keep us there, and in the end I took it for MSRP, zero markup.

Offer them MSRP and say you have the cash to put down then, make sure they know you're prepared to walk away and they might knock the price back down.

One solution is to buy some other car than can be actually bought with a decent discount. Some Oppo member was just bragging about his ELR that he was able to buy really cheaply. Yeah, it was more expensive than this but he was able to get a discount that was nearly the same as the price is that we are talking about here.

But why would you want to have a Juke?

But I assume if you walk in there and tell them "I have cash right now to buy the car outright" I'm sure they'll have a different stance.

That's what i'm doing. over email, since i'm in Europe. since we know the dealer, i'm going in Balls-to-the-wall, and offering bellow MSRP for it. hopefully they bite, since we'd still be paying more than what we would with the discount

I don't know how the U.S. car dealership sales things go (seriously I really don't, it seems crazy) but can Nissan North America not help in 1) informing you who has the car you want, 2) where will accept the discount or 3) place the order through them and nominate a dealership to handle the pick up (assuming it's a new build)?

Unless you go used a 370z is going to be hard to find at 25 grand, most that I see now are optioned to about 45-50k. And I believe msrp is about 30k but I may be wrong.

all they can do is say no. Don't make your offer too low or you lose credibility and look like a clueless idiot. Knock $1000 of msrp, say their floor mat guard and special was and mud flaps are meaningless to you. You can have 26k, or I'll head to another place. Even if youpay sticker, it's a unique car. Not as unique as they think.

Just out of curiosity have you thought of just a regular juke and tune it yourself because what they've done to make the nismo is not that great. You could do more yourself with the difference and you'd definitely get a better price on a regular juke.

I don't like Juke but I think many do as they are quite common here. But they are a bit more expensive here. I haven't seen any sportier models though.

NISMO RS isn't sold here and only NISMO with 197 bhp is available here starting from 32 900€ ($44 500) and 4x4 CVT version is 39 000€ ($52 700).

Cash won't make a difference, in fact they prefer you finance because they get kick-back from the bank. Just tell them you are willing to pay MSRP and nothing more. They are still making plenty of money off sticker and be prepared to walk. In terms of alternatives I hear there are good buys on MKVI GTIs and if you want something unique you can pick up a Veloster Turbo well within your budget.

Just straight up tell them to get rid of the markup or you walk. Show up at the dealer, explain to them that you have cash, you're ready to purchase the car that day but only if they remove the markup.

If they say no, walk out and tell them you're never buying from them. If they don't agree, they don't get business.

Yes, as well you should.

I might be able to go below MSRP.
they did offer me a non RS NISMO juke with a CVT about two months ago when I first went in for $1500 under MSRP due to the "family+friends" discount

The Recaros are nice but the rest is still just not worth that much. You could still probably get a new Juke with the manual with your discount for around 20k and be able to personalize it and tune it and put recaros in for less then the 10k difference.

Like Ballban said in an article yesterday, that's apples versus appley-oranges. Desirability of a CVT model versus a NISMO model is radical.

I have a better plan. You tell the dealer you will either buy the NISMO for $26k cash, or you will use that cash as a downpayment for a Tesla.

Try pitting one dealer against another over email communication only. Make them compete for your purchase by telling them the other is willing to offer $ - discount and ask them to beat it. Rinse, repeat until you reach a reasonable price that others have paid for your car.

Why on Earth would anyone be mad about MSRP+ on Nissan Juke? The way I see it, the dealer is doing you a huge favor by discouraging a purchase of the ugliest vehicle unleashed on mankind since the Pontiac Aztec.

If this was a great car, we'd all be mad on your behalf. But this is not a great car.

I'm gonna defend the juke since I love it! :D

I will admit, it's not the prettiest thing on wheels, but I love the way it looks. The way I see it, it's the only car in it's class that was designed by a person who said "ok boys, fuck it, let's make something weird as fuck."

Yes, it looks like a frog and a Hyundai Tuscon had a wild night out, but I love that about it. also, it drives wonderfully. it's a bit more-roly poly than your average hot-hatch, but this allows for some nice tossability! the increased ride height also means it's a rallycross rocket right out of the box!

If you know the dealer why are they being dicks. Just do the math for them MSRP-1500=Price you will pay. They say no, you say goodbye. You also learn that you didn't know them well enough for them to treat you fair.

I'm sure this is something you don't need asap, so you should wait it out and give it a couple months. When my '11 sti sedan came out in Plasma Blue Pearl, I saw some models going for 43-45K at Subaru dealerships around the Bay Area. I waited about 6 months and then found one at Walnut Creek same limited edition for 33K out the door with only 9K miles. You should never be buying a car in cash anyways. It's a poor financial decision and you wont gain anything from it in terms of improving credit history.

Cash=Assest

Car=Liability

Doesn't matter if you're rich or poor. People finance in order to build credit. If that's not important to you, then I don't know what else to tell you buddy.

I'm assuming it's a hard-to-get vehicle, and they know you want it, so they mark up the price. It sucks, but that's how the free market works, and there's not a thing you can do about it. There are dealerships out there that will not sell a car over MSRP, but clearly this particular dealership isn't one of them.

For more details, dust off one of your old Econ textbooks, and turn to the chapter on supply vs demand.

If I cared about resale value, i'd get a wrangler or a corolla. But, since I couldn't care less, and want a car that's enjoyable to drive everyday (which, to me the juke is) then I don't see the point. And yeah, it's not the best car out there for $26,000 but I don't care. to me, it's the best car for $26,000 and that's all that matters to me
