What is the origin of referring to a smartphone as a potato?

So when smartphones started having cameras and people started making videos and photos of things and posting it on the internet, many of those photos and videos were pretty awful quality. Someone somewhere thought it funny to ask if some pic or video was "recorded with a potato". Example: 240p YouTube video gets the comment "What you record this with, a potato?" It's kind of become a meme to refer to any pictures or video taken with a cellphone that doesn't have an absolutely stellar camera as "taken by my potato" or something similar. Honestly, people are using it way more than they should. I've seen plenty of good quality pics called potato cam pics.

No, this isn't an Oppo specific meme, it's all over the web. Oppo happens to be a place where a lot of users post photos and videos of stuff (cars, obviously) taken with cell phones.
