The BMW I3. What is the swoop in the doorline below the 3rd door for exactly?

A BMW, even an electric one, should never remind you of a Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe., and this one does.

My guess is that it gives the rear passenger a modicum of visibility, since modern belt lines are so damned high. It's the same sort of thing Honda had to do in the new Odyssey.

IMO they at least tried to make something different. Also wouldn't care if the exterior was literal crap, 10/10 would bang DD.

It's not a 3rd door, both sides have the rear suicide door. It might lower the belt line so kids can have an arm rest closer to the window.

I've grown to like the KL cherokee, and from some angles its quite attractive...the side is not that angle. The front clip is exaggerated and square fender arches don't jive with the german greenhouse and the tapered waist.

Those high belt lines are killing me. The other day I was in a gas station pulling into a pump when some dick in a new expedition with the high belt line just backs up into the pump as I am pulling into it. He didn't see me pulling in there at all. Too low to be seen. I just said on the horn, and when he got out he said "sorry man I didn't see you at all".
Terrifying.

I like the looks from the LK from the front. Agree the side is not the best.

I assume it was just for styling but this could also be true. I hate today's high belt lines, I was just about run over by some guy in an expedition because he didn't see my car behind him sitting below his beltline directly behind when he was reversing.

Yeah, I love that interior.

too nose heavy, especially for a jeep, given that there is a large air gap in front of the rad it doesn't make a lot of sense that its so long.

so you cannot fap in the back seat

I totally agree.
I can't put my arm by the window anymore on so many new cars. Why have engineers and designers forgotten the correct cruising position?
Even the Ford Flex could be so much cooler if it had a lower belt line and a wagon profile. #wagonwednesday

Styling cue to tie into the i8 styling?

Ah, shit. Guess I can't get one now :(

I have heard that the high belt lines are to be in accordance with new crash safety guidelines. But yes, the inability to rest your arm on the window is seriously disappointing. Just look at the new Camaro, and all you can see is the driver's head in the window. The sill is at or above the shoulder.

The high belt line is good in that one. Would rather have over an I3.

It makes sense, and is understandable, because I will always want my safety over my comfort. But with that in mind, they aren't so far apart that my arm can't go out the window.
I enjoy driving too much. My car is an extension of me. I didn't buy it to hide in it, nor did I buy it to make it flashy. I want it to be just right.

I'm not a fan. Especially the part between the rear wheel and the side windows annoys me, the beltline is too high so there's too much metal there. Not a good design, imho. That said, I can't remember ever seeing a second gen CTS in real life.

10/10 would rock.

I don't mind the high beltline on sports cars and so forth. What is killing me is the high beltlines in suv's and the like. The drivers can't see shit, and I mean yes you can argue (correctly) a Lamborghini Countach driver can't see anything either but I am betting the avg sports car driver has more road awareness than the average random government official driving around in an expedition. I was just about crushed by one of those reversing into a gas pump. My car was there first but hee didn't see me at all.

How dare you, that C pillar and rear fender = sex.

Feel free by all means. It's just not the car for me that's for sure.

I remember reading a magazine article and they said Honda made that swoop and the exposed door... track? or whatever it's called because it allowed more space for the people sitting in the back.

Lower the belt line and you won't have to. I have an older Odyssey, and I really dislike the look of the latest model.

They butchered the rear of those. So gut-wrenchingly plain and generic. Looks like an older-gen Hyundai Tucson.

Everyone is saying "blah blah designers don't understand the appeal of lower beltines and being able to put your arm by the window" I'm pretty sure 90% of the reason todays belt lines are ever raising is for crash tests and safety standards.
