Looks like someone doesn't know what "media embargo" means. Someone snapped a shot of this slide, which I assume is a presentation given at the first media session for the Hellcat yesterday.

I'm not part of the media, and Oppo is a message board in my opinion BUT I'm sure Jalop was there, so if this needs to be deleted, PLEASE DELETE. I'm not trying to get Jalopnik in trouble.

Kinja'd!!!

As a multiple SRT owner (SRT-4, SRT-6, 6.1 SRT, 392 SRT) I fully admit I thought they wouldn't dare put more HP in it than the GT500....and I was off. WAY OFF.

When I saw the HP was 707, I ASSUMED it would have a price starting in the mid $70's. I WAS WAYYYYYY OFF.

Bravo SRT. Bravo. Egg on my face.

Jalopnik traditionally doesn't care for media embargos, so no trouble to be expected.

You're probably looking at more like $1100/mo + gas/tax/insurance. You'll need to make around $65-70k/yr to qualify for the loan.

$65-70k is not enough for that kind of car payment unless you live with your parents and don't have any other bills...

Insuring that won't be cheap either, I'd guess for a younger guy with even the best driving record it's going to be at least $200 a month. So close to $1500 a month to own the car? If you make $65k a year you bring in ~$3500 a month after taxes. That doesn't leave you much money for things...

If someone wanted a Viper, they would have already bought a C7 Stingray #rekt

But seriously, I don't know that it blows everything out of the water. It'll sway some buyers, sure, but people that buy this sort of car are probably going to buy the brand they like regardless of power.

Of course I hope you're right, I hope it steals all the GT500 and ZL1 sales so that Chevy and Ford change them to compete. I would love to see a muscle car power war.

Looks like you're in one of those lovely positions where your degree will have no bearing on anything. The Federal government is great for that. When I came on full time in 2010 there was a supervisor in my department that thought since she started at the bottom, everyone should start from the bottom. Completely discredited the Masters degree I had obtained, and screwed me out of 2 GRADES. Not steps, but grades. It's been since rectified, but, yeah.

Kinja'd!!!0

It comes definitely close haha. I think there are enough horsepower junkies out there that'll pick this thing up, I'm still shocked that this car is sub 60k, that is crazy.

It definitely seems like the big 3 are rearing up for a muscle car war. It's always been more of a cold war type thing, one of them releases a new version, yay fanfare, then it dies down. Chrysler releasing this thing and making a huge deal about it, they straight up said, "Hey Ford, Chevy, fuck you. It's on."

I've been at it for about 5 years, and am having thoughts about jumping ship. Yeah, the days off are nice, but, there comes a point in time when you realize even though the money isn't bad, it's better in the private sector.

"sub 60k". It's sub 60k so they can say it is, $59,900 is really $60k, and I suspect that's some super base model that won't actually ever be built or sold.

Kinja'd!!! Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom > Jayhawk Jake
07/16/2014 at 09:14

Yeah I know, most cars will most likely cost around 70k, but still. For what it is, that still isn't too bad.

I meant that the bank would approve the loan based on income, not that you could necessarily "afford" it. The typical rule that I've heard is that they will approve up to 20% of your monthly income for car payments. 70k/12mo*20%=$1167/mo

I don't think Jalopnik was invited. I was on Wave 1 (no, I'm not the guy who leaked it, I was sitting further to the right).

Evidently the automakers don't really enjoy the whole "no respect for embargoed information" thing.

That seems unsafe. No wonder we're in a financial crisis. Banks shouldn't approve that much of a loan.

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Jeremy H formerly Kalakaboooom
07/16/2014 at 09:48

Kinja'd!!!1

Eh? I mean, yeah, it's a huge HP number. But what it is is a big car with an even bigger engine, and it's a big car that in base form costs $26k. So you're paying a $40,000 premium for a big engine and not much else.

All I'm saying is if I had that kind of money I'd be buying something else, 700 hp or not.

Well, to be clear, it's 20% max of your income. Your total monthly debt can only be ~45% of your monthly income. Your mortgage can only be 30% max. So if you are using 30% for a mortgage, that only leaves 15% for car payments/student loans/credit card minimums/etc. 20% is the max. Assuming he comes out of college making ~65k and has no mortgage, no student loans, and no CC debt, he might get approved, probably depending on credit score. Also, if he REALLY wanted the car, he could get 72 or 75 month financing probably (poor decision). 72 mos at 4% puts you around $940/mo with $0 down. 75 mos puts you at ~$905/mo which makes the required salary about $55k. No bueno.

In only 2005 they made the SRT-6 Crossfire . It was a rebadged SLK32 AMG. Supercharged 3.2L V6.

Low 13's in stock form. High 11's with a pulley/intake/tune and some drag radials. MONSTER sleeper because people don't know they exist.

I know a guy with a red one. Pretty wicked ride. He said the SRT-6 was on like a "per-order" build line, so there aren't a whole lot of extra ones hiding around. Not sure if that's exactly right, but I could believe it.

I don't see him often, but the next time I do, I'll ask him. Somewhere I do have a few pictures of it, maybe some video, but it would only be off and in a parking lot. I'll poke around. It's possible he had it repainted, but you've got me.

I should see him at a show in the next couple weeks, and I can give him a hard time about it.

Look for the huge "whale tail" fixed spoiler. If it's one of the small retractable ones, then it's just a regular crossfire.

I only heard of one guy who actually removed all of the mechanics around the retractable one and replaced it with an SRT spoiler.

But ALL SORTS of guys loved to buy SRT6 badges and put them on their crossfires. Have to be careful.

Kinja'd!!! JGrabowMSt > Illegal Machine

Kinja'd!!!0

I'll dig around and see. I'm aware of seeing lots of re-badged cars, but I didn't know about the whale tail on the SRT6. I'd like to say it's been re-sprayed (he's the kind of guy who would), but I also wouldn't be surprised if he bought a bunch of badges either.

I know it's a manual at least.
