What's the consensus on this show? Danny's schtick is kind of annoying but he seems to know a fair amount. Also the episode that's on right now just had this bonkers Ford with 4 superchargers.

It might be scripted, not sure. The focus of the show (from the episodes I've seen), is focused on the character drama, or the people. That's ok, I guess, but I'm there for the cars. When I had cable, I watched Fast'n'Loud. It learned about a lot of cars and the workings of it by watching that show.

I like it, it can get a bit repetitive, but you can tell Danny really does love cars.

I agree. The financial/personal drama is also tiring.

It's a reality tv show. It is absolutely fake. If you think about how many episodes air per year, and how long it takes to restore a car, it just doesn't add up. They buy a car, paint it, and then voila, it's been immaculately restored from a rusted scrap heap?

Also, what kind of insane idiot drives around LV with, oh, say about twenty grand in cash looking to buy cars off people they meet in the street?

Some of the cars on the show are cool, but all those reality shows just insult my intelligence.

One of my favorite non-instructional car shows. Danny "The Count" Coker's attitude is great, and you can tell he loves the cars, and the people, and is generally a happy guy.

The whole rocker/biker/rebel look is not my personal taste for how I would want to dress or portray myself, but that is his deal... whatever people choose to look like, it only matters what they act like, and he is a good guy.

His shop seems to do good work, too... albeit with a distinct style, rather than always being universally appealing.

Somehow all the Vegas History Channel guys... the Count's crew, The Pawnstars, and Rick Dale with American Restorations... all seem to come off as good, nice guys... even if some of them lay their "character" on pretty thick for TV. Iowa boys, Mike and Frank, the American Pickers could be grouped in there, too.

Of course the show is significantly time-lapsed. They don't claim that they do these builds in days or weeks... but they are professionals, and there is probably a fairly decent sized staff that can turn some jobs around faster than a shade tree mechanic restoring their own old car in the garage, on weekends.

Most of the time, when they talk to guys on the street, and come to a deal, he notably directs them to bring the vehicle to Count's Kustoms directly, and they do the transaction at the office.

And when shops like this do this kind of business... they do deal in cash, and they likely know how to handle carrying significant amounts of it, securely.

If they pull it out of their pocket, it is because they put it in their pocket moments before, from a strong-box back in the vehicle they drove up in.

To flip cars... you have to BUY cars to flip, and usually that is not well accomplished by paying another dealer their markup. Buying directly from an owner willing to sell is more likely to get a good price for both the seller and the buyer. You don't make money flipping cars with the re-sale at the end... you make money on the flip at the beginning with a good buy-in price, and keeping refurb costs in line with the finished value.

Of course a TV show is going to gloss over a lot of hidden details, and production considerations, and these guys conduct business, which is different than just walking around casually.

Any show about buying or selling cars on TV is going to show people dealing in tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars... and sometimes directly in cash, if deals are being made between people who don't know each other from Adam or Eve. Credit is a big risk, and cash is king.

Lol, anytime. Most of the reality shows on history I think are scripted. Fast n loud is scripted at certain parts, but the focus is on the cars usually. Just ignore any prices they quote, lol. especially the Ferrari episodes.

I mean, I rarely watch these kinds of shows for that very reason. For what it's worth though, if you're going to point out the suspect parts of the show, I think the whole "buying cars on sight off strangers" is completely staged. The fast turnaround times on comprehensive restorations is all editing though. They probably have like 5 or 10 of those projects at various stages of completion at any given time.

Exactly! If he was trying to flag me down I wouldn't stop. They never show the stages of the build either. I bet each car is actually 2 different cars. Anyone in LV want to see if they can go by his shop to "discuss a project"? I bet you can't, it's just a studio.

I'm sure they have used doubles of the cars. I don't know if they all are, but a lot of them are.

I like Danny, I think he's genuinely a car guy and he cares more about the project than the money. I think the show could do without Horny Mike or Roli's scripted antics. I'm glad the manager Scott is gone, because he was always freaking out about the bottom dollar. Danny seems to be living the dream: owns a car shop, sings in a rock band, drives around looking for cars all day...
