Well my mini cooper only revs up to 6500 rpm and it's a gas engine. Though it's torque band ends at 4k, after that it just makes opitimistic noises. So it feels like a desiel.

Just out of curiosity, I ran a search, and it seems Preludes and some Bims also can into diesel idle.

Little turbo engines are similar. I idle at 3 digit RPM.

I've never had a car that doesn't idle at 600-700 rpms.

My 900 SPG idles at 650. Seems incredibly low but gives an awesome idle tone

I'm confused by the confusion about this. All of my V8s have idled around 700. The Vortec 350 (or 5700 for those of you that go that way) will occasionally idle down into the 500s. But, that's because it's old and weird.

I can attest for Prelude as they are factory spec'd to idle around 700. Mine on the other hand regularly take nosedive into the 300s. Unfortunately this means people constantly think I want to race them off the intersection, when I'm just desperately trying to give my motor the kiss of life.

My Ranger idles around 900-1000... but that's because we had to turn up the idle. Due to what we think is a crack in the head for cylinder #2, we honestly have no clue though, the idle has to be kept up to stop it from just stalling all the time. Now it just randomly stalls out every now and then.

my 5.3 idles at 500 too
