Kinja'd!!!

303 emails and a voicemail from the same guy for every day that I was gone where he progressively gets more and more annoyed and angry with the fact that I am not returning his phone calls even though my voicemail stated I would be out of the country until today. Is it Friday yet???

Have a picture of the Colosseum from my time in Rome.

Pourquoi le francais? Je pensais que t'etais un vrai Americain? Un Americain n'a pas le temp d'apprendre une deuxieme langue. what gives?

Lol. My ex spoke French so I picked up a MINIMAL amount. I wont lie I had to use translator to help a good bit. Personally I strongly believe in knowing more than one language and while time constraints have not made that easy for me I do know minimal amounts of Italian, Spanish, and (even less) French, but I fully plan on finishing all those languages and then some more (German, Mandrin and Arabic). Not all Americans are as terrible as the majority make us out to be.

You can honestly never know too many languages. I'm 100% bilingual french & english and do know enough Tagalog (maybe 20% fluent as my wife is Filipino) to order a meal and a beer and to greet your elders. I have a strong desire to learn Japanese as I hope to work there one day.

It's ok to only know english. what's not ok is if you only know english and treat everything else as inferior, travel to another country and be pissed off and treat them as stupid because they do not know english all that well.

The closed mindset is the problem not the fact that they only know english. If you keep an open mind you will be surprised what you will learn.

I have to say I admire your effort you are definitely a minority but the rest of the americans will have to come around at some point.

sincerely your friendly canadian neighbor.

It really is the American mindset though. This was my first trip to a country where the primary language was not English, and I was severely taken back by the number of natives whom spoke English. I mean I expected the tour guides and some of the people in the hotels (just as you can find big hotels all over the states where the front desk has people who speak multiple languages). But the maids, small shop owners in non-tourist-destination areas and random people on the street I found could even conjure up conversations, or at minimum, enough to direct you to the nearest [insert destination here]. You will not find that in the states, which to me, is very disappointing.
