Land yachts? Narrow streets? How is this not a sea of twisted metal and dinged fenders?

One thing I noticed too... These same streets feel narrow with today's cars. I can't imagine navigating these streets in 70's land yachts! At least, from the looks of it, people actually knew how to parallel park these things. Nowadays everyone parks at least 12" from the curb.
