'cause my wife is gonna kill me - my willpower is only so strong! 1997 Toyota FJ80 Land Cruiser with 227k km for less than 4 grand. Even in the silver-on-beige colour scheme, I want it bad.

Just tell her "We will never have to pay for another repair as long as we and our grandchildren live".

That's probably true, but it won't be enough to change her mind. Especially since she knows I'll be shopping for upgrades the minute I get it home...

That's super cheap, either that is the deal of the week or it needs head gaskets.

I told someone else on here with an 80 about flexy coils from suspension stuff. By far the best coils I have used. Basic run down is say you get a 3" lift, with these coils you can run a 6" lift shock. So you get all the down travel without haveing to go sky high and have a high center of gravity. Seriously awesome bit of kit. YouTube them, they're big here in 'straya. I'm not affiliated with them in anyway, just in awe of their stuff. When I got mine they came with a no sag guarantee, even with towing a 3600 lbs Fairlane with their softest spring. Not sure if they do now though. Well worth the added headache and expense to get them over to you.

Common problem with this motor?

I've heard it is, I've also heard it's bulletproof, so I don't know.

Yeah, i just did some quick searching and it looks like it can be a problem, but not necessarily a big one. Good to know nonetheless. Found a good buying guide on sleeoffroad.com with lots of info.
