Here's what I'm driving for the time being.

"Give me a piece of crap" I said. "Something that you won't miss if it's gone for a week."

And here it is in all its glory:

Kinja'd!!!

It's a 2001 Dodge Caravan, but it doesn't possess enough grandeur to be a Grand Caravan. Nope, this one's the short wheelbase, with a third row seat and a trunk but not really enough room to make effective use of both at the same time.

Despite only covering 125,000 miles it's seen quite a few Pennsylvania winters and has endured some pretty substantial weight reduction. Examples:

There's lots more, including some interesting looking dangly bits underneath, but you get the idea.

So why am I driving this thing?

I work for an auto dealer group and get the perk of driving company vehicles as my daily transportation. For the past 3 weeks I've been driving a 2012 Fiat 500, which kind of sucked for long distance commuting but was a blast to drive on the back roads.

But tomorrow I'm going on vacation, which means my company demo vehicle is going to be parked in front of my house for the next eight days- hence my request for something they're not going to miss.

And I don't think they're going to miss this one.

Some notes of interest from the technician that inspected it:

"BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WORN OUT"

"ALL 4 STRUTS WORN OUT"

"REPLACE FRONT TIRES TREAD DEPTH 0/32"

"ROCKER PANNLES ARE RUSTED OUT AND THE PINCH WELDS CRUSHED WHEN LIFTED ALSO LOTS OF RUST ALL OVER VAN BOTTOM OF REAR HATCH IS ALL PUDDY AND CRACKING APART"

Yet somehow it passed inspection 3 months ago.

I asked for a POS and I got one! This should be fun. But at least the air conditioner works... and it's got an iPod jack!

What a piece of shit! I love it! You could run this thing into a pole and nobody would notice when you returned it.

Reminds me... I need to get my cassette adaptor fixed ASAP. Going with a single 12-song mix CD is going to drive me nuts.

No, I'm using it to get home from work and then back to work again after the trip. It's sitting in front of my house for the week I'll be gone.

Ah, okay. That's what I kinda thought but.... gotcha. Whenever I go to training or need to borrow a car from work I always tend to pick out one with "character" too. But I make sure I'm not gonna die on the way home.

I always try to get something decent (stick shift TDI I had a few months ago FTW), this is the one exception as it's going to be parked for a week while I'm 400 miles away.

Murphy's law of used cars is that the one you're driving will always sell the one day you don't bring it to the dealership. Either that or the day you put gas in it.

Yeah I've borrowed a few cars over the years and got the call at home "Umm.... someone wants to look at it.... you'll be back tomorrow, RIGHT?"
