I'm going to get a Porsche 911 Carrera. I've heard too many horror stories about the Maserati Cambiocorsa and it's reliability which scares me off.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Only $22,500, plus there's a very uncomfortable looking backseat making it no less practical than my A4. Sadly, I'm not in the economic situation where I could buy one, and afford maintenance.

But here's the question: Could you get away with daily driving one of these without breaking the bank?

No problem at all using one as a DD... Only thing you have to make sure about is if the RMS/IMS bearings have been changed... With such a few mileage, it might still be the original one. I would personnally recommend a high mileage 996 as you'll be sure that either the IMS/RMS bearings have been changed or that it simply will not break...

71000miles is a critical moment is the life of these bearings.

wow I actually looked at this same car a few days ago.

I nearly tricked myself into buying a $30k 996 a while back. Definitely easy to DD. Many people have told me that higher miles=safer too so don't worry about getting one with almost 100k.

How many miles do you think one of these things could take with regular maintenance?

If I were looking for one right now and I found a late model 996 with over 100k on it with tons of service records and spotless history, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Theres a guy on rennlist with OVER 340k (!) on his 996 TURBO. Oddly enough, the turbos are actually considered more reliable. Read through this to help ease your mind.

If you get a 911 you'll have to give me a ride!

If only I had more money to throw at cars I like. It's great to hear that they are reliable enough though, That would mean that I'd just use one as my main and get a R6 or something to keep around.

In the next 5 years or so I'll probably end up with one. That's all if everything goes as planned career wise, and that sort of stuff. Luckily, I'm currently single, so that can really speed up my decision making process.

Good luck man! I wanted to pick one up a while back but I couldn't find any manuals I liked in my price range. It's great that you can pick up a 911 with under 100k on it for less than $20k but they tend to be autos or verts, the two things I don't want haha. I might just save up and get a 996 turbo down the road but that's gonna require some serious saving.

I might just end up in a Z4M coupe. Those are stupid cheap.

Thanks! I'm not a huge fan of the Verts and automatics either, but if I found the right one with the correct transmission I would be slightly more intrigued. On my list, there is also the Maserati Coupe/Cambiocorsa, and the Bmw Z3 M-Coupe.

They're all at pretty damn good priced, but especially with the Maserati I'm just not sure how I can get away with DDing one of those and finding one with a manual transmission. They just cost so much to keep maintained properly, plus I wouldn't really want to DD a Maserati, Haha.

I'd be scared to DD a Maserati, the Clown shoe on the other hand....

I'd probably just swing for a Z4M coupe just because they're a little easier to come by. This clown shoe i really tempting though.. Just wish it was less monies! http://m.autotrader.com/vdp.html?id=37…

I'd rather have a M Roadster from that same generation to be honest, I've got an Uncle who has one of them and loved it.

The Maserati, I'd just be scared of everything going wrong and me not being able to afford fixing everything that went wrong.

+1 about the Maserati. I don't even have a garage.

I know I knocked vert's earlier talking about Porsches but I'm actually considering buying a Z3 roadster (non M) as a fun car. Buying my latest car with an auto was a bad idea. I love the car like crazy but I miss having 3 pedals.

Yeah, There is a small amount of convertibles that I'd actually own. The M Roadster Z3 and the Maserati Cambiocorsa are two of the only ones that I'd have in the price range that I'm looking into. What kind of car do you currently have?

2007 E90 328i. Got a great deal at a Mercedes dealer last August. It's been very reliable so far and just an amazing car to drive on the backroads.

You're in an A4 right?

Yup, I'm in my second A4, an older one :O

It's a 1997 2.8 Quattro 5mt. Previously my 08 A4 S-Line. I mainly downgraded to save up for a new bike, and car. It's a good car, can't complain even if it's old.

my cousin just picked up an 09 A4 S-line. He loves it.

That's the right kind of progression! I want to pick up an old BMW, maybe an E28, and use at as a weekend car until I get it reliable enough to DD. I don't know what I'll do with the 328i if that happens. It's been a great car and I might just keep it.
