So much hate against the KL Cherokee, specifically for 2 reasons:

1. its ugly

2. its not an XJ Cherokee so it can't go off-road.

Regarding 1, yes its ugly from the front, but the rest of it is nice looking.

Regarding 2, no its not a solid axled inline 6 beater of a workhorse, but can it actually go off-road? You bet your sweet ass it can. I had a pre-production model for a week in Jackson Hole and was !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with it on and off road, now though, someone other than jeep has taken a Trailhawk with mild modifications (rock sliders from the Mopar catalog) and tackled hells revenge in Moab. If you aren't familiar with hells revenge its not the hardest off-road trail in the world, or Moab even, but its no walk in the park. It rates a 6 out of 10 on the cruise Moab rating system which is explained as:

"Roads are difficult with considerable erosion damage repaired just enough to be passable. Water in excess of 12" is possible with mud conditions. Steps not exceeding 24". Tall tires (33" plus) with traction added devices (lockers, limited slips) are recommended. A winch would be a plus. Enhanced suspension travel and ground clearance are helpful. Excellent driving skills are recommended."

Very few off the showroom floor vehicles should try this. So how did the, more or less, showroom ready Cherokee Trailhawk do? pretty damn well if you ask me.

Given the low range ratios (48:1with the v6) the factory and aftermarket armor, the aggressive traction control with a genuine locker it really did well for itself, even without any kind of suspension articulation. Color me impressed.

Has anyone improved the front with aftermarket pieces? Like a big piece that covers the whole front, or something?

haha! Rocky-Road in Utah has a front bumper (with winch) for it that looks nice. and the sweetest roof rack solution I've ever seen as well as sliders that are a little beefier than the mopar units.

in case of kinja (likely)

Trails should be rated based on whether or not a Crown Victoria can drive it.

1. I like the looks, they actually tried something.

2. Previous XJ owner saying open diffs still only got you so far.

3. I don't need a SUV at all, but damn … dat trail hawk.

Ugliness is subjective. I think it looks great.

Yeah, the editing is poor and I was so bothered by it I actually commented on youtube to express my displeasure. As for the Crown Vic, yeah thats a sweet video and I've met that guy, but the whole trail he does not do.

I agree with you, but

Kinja'd!!!

My main issue with the new one is the same with so many new vehicles. TOO MUCH BLOAT. The new one just looks like a bloated puff like all the 'SUVs' they (all manufacturers) sell. Now I know that is because big brother wants to keep us safe from ourselves. I wouldn't mind loosing safety crap for a smaller more efficient package. Also Boxy is beautiful.

Oh I guess thats dissapointing makes that crown vic less impressive. I like this jeep seeing it going over crazy stuff makes it even more impressive I dont know what everyone is on about regarding the front I like the looks of it. I would buy one just like the one in the video put a small lift on it maybe and those rails and it would go anywhere I would care to go.

small lift is out I guess, but they saw you can get a slightly lager tire (goodyear duratrac) that fits without rubbing that would net you half an inch plus better traction.
