Steelies on a brand new 2014 Corolla. Reliable, but old and boring covered in a cheap, disposable plastic facade isn't just a metaphor for the new Corolla, it's a metaphor for Toyota as a whole.

Not to mention with a dash of rubbing your face in it. They deliberately left the spokes clear of the steelie in such a way as to pretend it's a classy 8-spoke and try flailingly to make use of the steelie in the overall appearance at the same time. Utterly tone-deaf.

GM sells $50,000+ vehicles with "chrome" plastic wheel covers...
Why hate on the cheap, economical car when certain "luxury" vehicles are much worse offenders?

Wait, what car are you talking about?

Because racecar, it reduces weight the engine has to rotate creating better performance.

Those are plastic wheel covers on a $50000 Tahoe.

Those are polished alloys I'm fairly sure?

Just like a 2014 Jetta, except, the Jetta has rear drum brakes

You are wrong.

They are listed as "Polished Aluminium."

I think the Corolla does as well. I'll have to check.

Corolla doesn't have a sweet GLI version though....yet :] Well, the older GLI's were cool, these latest ones have been just ok.

I thought this was their symbol?

Polished, chrome, whatever … they are actual rims though, not hubcaps.

I'll check my comp when I get home. A co-worker has a loaded Sierra with the six spoke wheels. He curbchecked the hell out of them and cracked a huge chunk of plastic off of the rim. I've seen the same thing on a Buick Enclave on the rack in a Buick garage. They aren't the same type of "hubcap", like you think of, on a traditional steelie. They are a bitch to remove, as I don't think GM intended for them to be removed.

Jetta is made cool by GLI and TDI

Say word? I'm interested in pic, don't SR20 this!

Dodge does that as well with their RAM trucks. The first iteration of the 20" were aluminum but the current ones for the most part have a plastic chrome cover attached to the wheel

Easy fix, just take them off and play Frisbee

Brief thread revival:
I saw my co-worker today and managed to get pics of the hubcaps I was talking about. He's had the cracked caps replaced; so, I don't have a picture of that.
Fancy hubcaps.

Well I be damned …. or actually, damn GM.
