Somehow I feel less safe now.

Is it for patrolling the local pumpkin festival?

Don't freak out, it's not marshal law. They mostly use them for stuff like this :

Gotta direct that shopping center traffic!

the cops have got themselves a RV.....
![]() 07/11/2014 at 11:03 |

Fuck if I know. There's a ludicrously low crime rate here. Just Mexicans stealing dogs and the occasional drug deal. Though I hear human trafficking is immense in Wichita, I've never seen evidence of it.

Well, what if the specific place this truck is comes under military grade fire. Then whose laughing!

Probably all of the people in the well-stocked military base just outside town which is listed for double-duty as a concentration camp/safe haven in the case of emergencies.

The military is basically giving away their surplus of these to local law enforcement across the country. It may be overkill in some places, but it's free, so they take it to replace aging vans and such.

Yeah. DND giving police a bunch of APC's was ridiculous and unnecessary. The police should not be the military.

Scary shit, yo. The more militarized our police get, for whatever reason you want to go with, the more scared I get.

but but it's there for YOUR *protection* ......unless you sneeze in the wrong direction.

Any town smaller than Philadelphia with less crime than Philly does not need these and should not be allowed to have them.
![]() 07/11/2014 at 11:13 |

And people wonder why I'm paranoid around cops even if I have "nothing to hide"

To serve and protect, whether you like it or not.

Local police got a fleet of these. I still don't feel safe...

Don't worry, they're Fords so after about 20 feet they'll stop working.
/sarcasm
(is Ford-bashing still a thing? Or is that passe now?)

It's hard. On one hand, they are saving your money by reusing old equipment. On the other hand, it's a fucking military truck.
![]() 07/11/2014 at 11:25 |

Odds are they paid a fraction of what a true SWAT vehicle costs and a fraction of what the original cost of this monstrosity was.
That's how police departments are getting these things. The government is selling them on the cheap to anyone who will buy one. And if a department wants a SWAT vehicle for whatever—drug raids, active shooters, etc—then this becomes a viable option due to cost rather than overblown capability.

Other than it uses more gas and is reinforced for IEDs, how is that different than normal SWAT vans? It's free rather than buying a replacement upconverted E350. As long as they deploy them similarly it gets a big meh from me.

does witchita have flooding problems, because that's the only good reason I can see for a surplus MRAP in local PD hands. (well, besides getting free shit that was going to go to waste)

I dont know really. I have seen a group of about 5 of them going for service. It was so cool seeing them arrive like if they would assault the place or something.

Maybe investigate a little more on its use instead of just assuming? It's a Sheriff Departments car not local police. Ever consider this is to transport high value targets from jail to courts to keep them safe?

Can anyone identify where this is from?

South Seneca, according to the twitter poster I took this from.
