What do you think of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that I posted yesterday? At what point does a Model S become viable as a used alternative to your current car? Let's say you are in the market, you are ready to replace your DD. Another good question is, how will these fare in the used market? Will we be picking up used examples 5 years from now and give them a worthy second life?

My cell phone, laptop batteries are absolutely atrocious performance wise after two years, i can't imagine shelling out 60k+ for a "used" Tesla (or any other pure electric car) when the long term affects on the battery life haven't been realized yet.

Yeah, I'd like to know what the driving range of a 5-10 year old Tesla is.

You also have to remember, though, that a Tesla is programmed to be much better at protecting its battery than we are at protecting our phones and laptops (charging them at will in cars, outlets, incomplete charges, charging from halfway full, equalizing? whats that). I work in an industry that works with anything from charging marine batteries to several thousand pound batteries and those customers of ours that take care of their batteries can get a LOT of life out of them, vs those that don't care for them, they'll burn through batteries sometimes as frequently as once a year.

i realize there are certain steps/precautions that one must take to get optimal life out of a battery, however, sometimes "life" gets in the way and doesnt allow for the steps to be taken. You for sure can't expect a wealthy Tesla owner who is leasing the car to actually follow the optimal charging procedures by the book.

Another tidbit:

Warranty on battery is 8 years, so if you buy a 4 year old car, you still get a battery under warranty for 4 years. If it fails after that, you are looking $12k, from what I read quickly.

I know a big help to our batteries is, is to let it equalize somewhat regularly.

I would think the Tesla is programmed to do this and I would also think that even a wealthy lease owner gets it on a charger overnight somewhat regularly, allowing the Tesla to do its thing. But I am just speculating here, haha. But it seems like a reasonable assumption.

If I can employ the typical luxury depreciation and get a TEsla for 50% off (even factoring in a new battery + CPO warranty) I would do it in a heart beat. But Im a poor bitch so I'll have to wait a while.

I have been pushing my dad to go look at the S. Its kinda perfect for his needs these days, plus; I want to drive a S whenever I please. And thats the cheapest way I can figure out how to do it. Cheap for me, that is.

"At what point does a Model S become viable as a used alternative to your current car?"

I buy cars that usually cost between 2-3K. It's gonna be a while.

lol, I can't wait till Model S's are considered a beater.

"28 miles per charge, 187,000 miles, power cuts out randomly, the only door handle that works is the rear passenger side"

Eventually every model of car becomes a beater....

I now want a beater Tesla that I don't give two fucks about. Keep depreciating Tesla's, I am waiting.

Yup, throw a Honda generator in that thing, bam! Range extender, lol.

In all reality, I just looked up using generators to charge a Model S and people don't seem to recommend it, haha.
