Let's find out...
20i stays the same.
28i => 20is
35i => 30i
40i => 30is
50i => 40i
28d => 20d
35d => 30d
...I don't know what to tell you about the sDrive/xDrive, X456 GranActiveHybrid nonsense. Let's just pretend like that never existed..

xDdrive/Hybrid would just be a separate badge on like the left of the trunk lid or something.
This is really how it should be.

You're missing the point. Lower numbers have less prestige, which is the whole BMW dynamic. Higher numbers = more prestige = happier customers. I know I'm usually critical of BMW, and I guess I am being so now too, but this is how the game works. They're just working it to their advantage.
It's the same as the chrome strip under the windows of every mid-size sedan now. For the expenditure of $10 worth of chrome, the perceived value of the car goes up $100+. The same with the numbers.

I know what the point is. I don't care. It's retarded.
BMW sold cars for thirty years without this nonsense.

I like the way you think, but the "is"es are now the M-Performance models.
