And it was rusty. Too bad. But is it too rusty? This post is photo heavy.

Below is my original post from yesterday and it features the pictures from the ad. I added the pictures I took today at the bottom.

In the pictures it looks great, but I did notice some minor rust around the tail lights (see last picture). What do you say, oppo? Bad omen for what's going on underneath or might it be fine otherwise? I am looking for a car in great shape.

And yes, those are manual windows, even up front. It does have AC, which is a rare option on these here. Kilometrage is high-ish at 269k (167k miles), although I've seen E30 325is that had double and still were in good shape.

Update: These are the pictures I took:

The car drove fine, is probably mechanically sorted and the interior is fine. One exception, a small speaker hacked into each front door and a large sub woofer in the trunk. What do you say Oppo, is the car too far gone?

Visible rust on the surface usually means there is some trouble underneath the car. Check the bottom of the car very, very secure, E30s are known for problems over there. Good manual 325i E30s (from de Kock in Almelo, right?) and A/C easily do twice the asking price so my guess is there's something weird at least. Also check where it's imported from as it's no original Dutch delivery so figure out if the kms are correct as well.

I thought it was somewhat cheap as well, although it's plausible the Touring is actually seen as less desirable (I'm not sure). The car was imported into the Netherlands in 12-1995, so almost two decades ago, which is a long time ago to check if the kms are correct. That said, the RDW site does note it's only had two (Dutch) owners, so there might be some documentation present. No idea how correct that information is, although I trust the data about the current owner (owned since 4-2010).

If I were to buy this I'll make sure they let me walk underneath it first. You're right about the dealership.

The taillight rust is very common. Also check:

Under rear most corners (from right behind the rear tires to the rear bumper) they often rust there but this might be reduced as the battery is in the engine bay.

Check the elephant trunk. It is a little hose that comes through the fire wall. If it is clogged there is/has probably been water and/or debris in the passenger fender and it may be rusting from the inside.

Check around the license plate lights for signs of rust.

The touring is LESS desirable? By no means, it's the one most sought after in my experience. That last fact (last registrationdate) made me wonder as well: Is it a car de Kock drove himself or a car he's selling for a 3rd party? If the first it could be well maintained. You can take it to Broekhuis in Almelo, they're a decent (formerly 'Smudde') BMW dealership, to have it checked for known issues/rust. If de Kock let's you.

There is also a ' E30 Club Netherlands ', you can contact them if it's a known car to them.

But, if it's really good: Don't export it to the states! Keep it your self. Really, it's the one you want. Or sell it to me (for that price I would buy it in a heartbeat knowing it was good)!

I've heard people (here, not in the US) talk negatively about the Touring, the sedans (especially the 2-door) seem the most popular among many. That said, the Touring is far rarer.

De Kock is selling it for a third party. I was told they don't accept a trade in on this car.

I'm guessing you didn't mention price because it would be difficult to really gauge the deal as an American since I don't know your car market, especially for E30s (over here they are getting somewhat unreasonable in price).

That being said, given the right price, and the minimal visible issues, I would say it is for sure worth the test drive and consideration. Be sure though, that before you buy it, you MUST inspect it very closely. Check for any signs of rust underneath, and in the wheel wells. They are great cars, and I love mine, but you really need to check it over before you pull the trigger on buying.

Price is about $2500. That's expensive for a basket case and cheap for a pristine car. Like Jobjoris (who's Dutch as well) mentioned if it's as good as it looks you'd expect an asking price of up to double this amount. But is it as good as it looks? I recently bought another Touring , a rust free one which did need some mechanical work, for significantly more, even though it was an automatic without AC. And then spent even more on it to fix some flaws.

If only I was a BMW fan, I'd love one of these 325i Tourings.

Certainly looks good enough to sell, and the AC will stand you in good stead for exporting to any of the hotter states :)

For $2500 you'd almost be able to come out even if you find flaws and have to give up on it.

Parts on it look nice and some are desirable. The Mtech2 steering wheel alone is worth $350. A lot of people pay good money for Euro "Smiley" style lights as well. Those look like euro bumpers as well, which fetch a good price.

The rust around the tail lights isn't too bad; it's a normal 80's BMW thing as someone already mentioned. That said, until you get a good look at the area behind those lights (via removing whatever liner is in the way as though you were trying to change a bulb), there's no way to tell. Could be pretty roached, as the ass end of my old E24 was. I had mild taillight bezel bubbling... and half of the inner rear wall of my trunk was gone!! Just a nice rust pile behind the felt liner.
