My son is working on a Lego project, and he needs 4 of these pieces. We have them in gray, but he needs them in white. I know I can probably order some, but does anybody know what this brick is officially called?

You can order them at http://bricklink.com from a variety of sellers.
If you know what set the ones he has came from you can use http://peeron.com to look that set up and get the part name/number.

1x1 Technic or something of the like. I've got a few of these in white somewhere, I'm pretty sure. I'd be willing to accept a 1 Hot Wheels equals 4 1x1 Technic brick trade...

I'm guessing that there is a more technical, specific name for this piece. I think you might have trouble going to NTB and saying, "Hi, I need a wheel." Actually, I bet they hear that quite often.

No idea. This isn't a set, it's a project he found on YouTube (Lugia Pokemon). We've got a shit ton of Legos, and quite a few of these, just not in white. I'll hit Brick Link. Thanks.

Looks like a Technic Brick 1X1

I'm with Cebu in thinking "1x1 Technic" or similar, since despite accepting a lego nub, its primary purpose is for a two-end Technic snap axle. That being said, those kinds of parts (the first gen of "special"/motion parts) are more common than not in ordinary Lego kits now.
Almost as common as these are the right-angle single nub pieces with a nub recess - good to put trim lines/protruding trim panels on things.

The Lego customer service is fantastic. If you e-mail them with this pic and tell them you would like to order them in white, they will be able to identify the part for you.

Thanks. Somebody already chimed in with a part number, and I found it online. 10¢ apiece, don't know about shipping.

I found it . Thanks for the help.

Don't kill yourself. He seems okay with the gray, and I've found the part online for 10¢/ea. But if you do find something, let me know.

you might call the lego store @ barton creek and see if they've got them in the brick bins.

Shitting a ton of LEGO... would not be pleasant.

That's a good thought. We went down there a few months ago and bought a whole bunch of wheel sets for building cars, etc. But I don't remember seeing this piece. They can do special orders there, though.

I'll argue that point. I won't test it, but I'll argue it...

Yep, but they still work. I'm guessing the creators are concerned with functionality and not aesthetics.
