Happened during the first day of practice. We heard the crash from the finish staging area but didn't see it. Lucky he missed the cars in the lot and lucky he didn't find the cliff on the other side of the trees.

Pulled it out of the trees, discarded the ruined bumper, fixed the rest, went on to do the full run in 9:36. Second slowest time of the day (hell, the course opening car ran it in 9:39), maybe he was still rattled after his surprise excursion.
I should add he was competing in a class without co-drivers.

what happened in the afternoon runs on sunday? There was a pretty long delay with about 10 cars left.

yikes, I bet he/she felt kinda dumb/embarrassed. Super glad it didn't end differently, esspecially in an area where people could easily have been standing

To be fair, the "safety car" (an Outback IIRC) was running balls out for that recorded time. Whoever was driving it got a little sideways when they came by on cragway during that recorded run.

I saw this happen at the base and ran up to the driver. I can be heard talking to him at the end of the video. My buddy has the crash from the base also.

Car 11 from what I heard thought it was the end of the run. The end of the run was right around the corner from this pull out. No cones were in that area at the time.

He must not have been paying attention at the driver's meeting. They made a point of telling us all about that left/right complex and to make sure we didn't go straight by mistake.
