a family friend got her sons 2006 mercedes, and was going to donate it, so I offered her $200. She told me that "you can't buy crap" so I asked if I could give her $10, and she said yes.

A family friend was going to donate it, as she thought it was a piece of crap. I offered her a few hundred, and she told me I could have it for $10.

Step 1: Become Jewish
Step 2: Invite a sweet old Jewish lady to your Bar Mitzvah
Step 3: Have your mom become friends with her.
Step 4: Offer her a few hundred bucks for her old "clunker"
Step 5: Buy said "clunker" from her at a good price instead of her sending it to the crusher.
Step 6: You now have a beater.

1996 850R wagon. I bought it kind-of by accident after it broke down while I was test driving it. I lowballed the guy at half the asking price, and came home with it!
Thankfully, the problem was just a bad cam position sensor, and a cheap junkyard replacement had it back up and running. If it's anywhere near as good as mine (and mine's pretty well-used), it'll be a thoroughly pleasant drive – they're decently quick, handle fairly well, and are incredibly comfortable long-distance cruisers. I'm glad to know that there are some other 850 owners on here!

Haha cool, it all depends of what their clunker is

Luckily mine survived the test drive. It's only known issues are: Shit paint, Bad front tires, Broken A/C and Heat, Broken Radio, and a small oil leak.

She got a better deal than me, as she got a 2006 Mercedes C230 from her son for free.

Exactly. Meanwhile her sons brand new Nissan Pathfinder is already in the shop having infotainment system issues fixed.

The mercedes was too small to drive around his business associates.

R-Class?
![]() 07/01/2014 at 15:53 |

I think he looked at an M class. The R class was discontinued after 2013.

The paint on mine was really faded when I got it, but it polished up beautifully. The Rs have a ferocious appetite for front tires, and I suspect that the Turbo isn't much different in that respect.
Mine leaks a bit of oil here and there, too. Still, I grew up with old British cars, so in a way, the spots on the pavement are a reassuring way to know that there's still oil in there!
