When I wrote up my little rant on that "speed kills" editorial I didn't expect it to be FP'd, so I didn't put much thought into forcefully rebutting his points... so thanks to all of you for stepping up in the comments. Have a bunch of shots of the Blue Wonder.

Clicking on a pic to enable replies. I've been in a long drawn out battle with a guy in that post who's convinced that because putting speed-limiters on cars isn't impossible, the writer of the article isn't a total putz - also he thinks that the writer's point ( since "nobody needs a car faster than the average") that in some way "fast cars" should be limited is valid.
What's practical is pointless, and what would be nice *in theory* is intrusive and impractical, but I can't get him to parse this for some reason. He seems to believe, broadly, in the authoritarian solution - at least as long as das Willen dem Volk supports it, which... eeesh. Because fast cars, being unnecessary and created by evil forces (paraphrased, exaggerated), are intrinsically evil items or something, but we can't rein them in because we're too invested/blinded by the seductiveness of their evil and marketing.
