He has dual bachelor's degrees in chemistry and television production (and it shows). Oddly enough, he didn't know a lick of actual culinary arts until well after Good Eats and even then it's debatable (most of his recipes were developed by a team of in-house chefs).

Where did he get his start, anyway? From music video production for REM. Yes, the only REM I could possibly be talking about.

100% of the advertising revenue earned by Good Eats went back into Good Eats production (he made money and avoided starving through DVD/merch sales, speaking engagements, endorsement deals and other engagements for Food Network)

He eschewed scripts in favor of an earpiece that had pre-recorded dialogue he would recite (hence why he tends to have more "uhs" than what a scripted show would really allow).

Only three "actors" who portrayed his relatives were actually related to him (not counting his evil twin "B.A.") - two were his own grandmother and mother, the former of which strictly played "out of character." The third was the actress who played his niece - no, it's not really his niece, but she is really his own daughter.

Finally, it turns out Alton's a bit of a gearhead - or at least a bit of an unconventional one. He's been seen driving a Subaru Baja, a Mitsubishi Pajero and a Land Rover Defender(!) Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to understand the difference between a true adventure bike and a sport tourer:

Also, Another fact I just remembered: Archer and South Park aren't the only forms or proof that he has a sense of humor: he once made a large donation to Food Network Humor, a site that hardly spared any riffs towards him.

If driving a baja and a land rover make you a gear head, ten there are a lot of lesbian and soccer mom gear heads out there.

AB got a culinary degree from the New England Culinary Institute in 1997 and worked in a few restaurants before Good Eats. All television cooking shows' recipes are developed by other cooks. He also is a pilot and owns a Cessna 206 and 414.
