Seriously, I'm disappointed by the lack of cars.

Am I alone in this?

Looking at the racing games being released this year those being Forza, Driveclub, Grid, The Crew, Project Cars, only Forza Horizon 2 has more than 100 cars.

Project cars current car list is pretty bare at the moment since the game is in development so for now it will get a pass.

Grid has continued its own trend of having a few car per class but given this games has less than 10 classes so yet again a Grid games with small amount of cars.

However my biggest gripes are with both Driveclub and The Crew who frankly should be embarassed. Considering these are both Next gen only games having around 40 -55 cars is not acceptable. Espacially when you see that Forza Horizon 2 has well over 200. Now I understand Forza Horizon 2 has the luxury of sharing car assets with Forza 5 but both Driveclub and The Crew have both been in development for over twice as long.

So given that GT6 had over 1200 cars and FM4 had over 700 different cars, is my disappointment justified or am I just another entitled gamer who always wants more.

Is it bad that out of all the new racing games, MK8 is the most appealing to me?

Let's be serious, GT6 had like 500 cars and 700 Skylines.

MK8 may be the same game but that game is awesome and now it is in HD. That said we need more Kart racers they are good stuff. Oh Crash Team Racing, many a good day lost to your goodness.

I know thus why "FM4 had over 700 DIFFERENT cars".

I think being next gen is the very reason these games don't have many cars. It's an ever-escalating pursuit of perfection that makes it not worthwhile to create detailed versions of cheap cars, which are more fun to collect, in my opinion.

I'd be surprised if GT6 had more than 200-300 cars with "detailed" interiors.

GT6 has over 120o cars because it has the luxury of sharing car assets with GT5, GT5P, GT4, etc. "Next-gen"-levels of detail and quality naturally require much more development time per car. For the time being, without increasing man-hours or making the development process faster and easier, there will be fewer cars than we've been accustomed to.

There are 52 cars in GT6 with 'Skyline' in the name. 46 MX-5, Miatas and Mazda Roadsters. 29 Imprezas.

There are 1228 cars in GT6. -127 leaves 1101 other cars.

I disagree, Turn 10 managed to build over 200 cars from scratch with ludicrous levels of details (the interior clocks work) in less than two years and with the pressure of being a launch title. The Crew and Driveclub just come across as pure incompetence considering they have less than a quarter of the cars but had over 5 years worth of development time.

Also I think you mean GT7 because I don't think I could handle PD porting GT6 to the PS4 that will literally be the last straw in the tragic decline of Grand Turismo, you can only upscale so much before a line must be drawn.

GT do the repainting nonsense on many more cars than that as opposed to Forza where it doesn't happen at all. Its ridiculous and I want it to stop. Seriously not everyone worships the Japanese car industry and 70% is just taking the piss.

I know, Turn 10 says it takes around 6 months to build a car for Forza 5 but given wider use of laser scanning in games, the cost of development should fall massively in the long run.

As I just pointed out, despite the duplicates, GT still has more unique cars.

Also, it's not like duplicating cars required as much effort as modeling entirely new cars. copypasta cars if you will. If anything it was a bold move by Nissan and Mazda and they should be applauded for it. We would be so lucky to have every manufacturer open up like that to the game developers.

Diversity is more important than uniqueness in my opinion, having as many BMWs as NSXs is ridiculous. Anyway duplicating is just lazy, simple as that. Where is the value of having a 95 and a 96 Skyline what is wrong with just one R33 Skyline. Its cheap and misleading and PD need to cut that shit out.

Developers have limited time and resources to build cars but duplicates and up scaling is ridiculous and I will give PD shit until they stop it. Turn 10 do so much more in much less time and while the Forza series has its own problems, car lists is something they do so much better than everyone else.

I love racing games and the stagnation of late had me worried but it looks like they might start to regress, I will wait until FM6 and GT7 before I make judgement hopefully those games will quash my fears.

Well, you'll be glad to know that they stopped work on those duplicate about a decade ago, just before they released GT4. If you look at just the premium content, HD models added since GT:HD, then you'd find that PD is quite diverse in their car selection.

Ugh, I forgot about the premium stuff, hopefully GT7 treats all cars equally. The black outline is just depressing for someone who drives exclusively in cock pit view.

Also I still disagree on it being diverse having one nation represent over 2 thirds of your car list clearly isn't diverse.

This still burns me.

Those charts are still factoring the 'standard cars', which did heavily favour Japanese cars.
Of the premium cars there are 168 Japanese cars, 242 aren't. Not the parity that Forza has, but no where near the 62% it was previously.

Both games have their merits and the market for licensing cars for video games is getting pretty competitive. It's quite likely the reason many cars aren't in GT is because they're in Forza, and vice-versa.

But really, tracks are what matter the most.

Yeah the exclusivity thing especially with Porsche and EA drives me nuts, I hope one day Porsche come to their senses and break it off.

Strangely as off late I seem to prefer the fictional tracks on Forza and GT a lot more than real world tracks.
