I took the dog out for a walk this morning and noticed my removable change holder was placed on my trunk. All of the quarters were missing and most of the nickels. I tried the door and it was unlocked; the ONE time I forget to lock my car! All of my storage compartments were popped open except the glove and the console, but nothing was missing. Not that I had anything worth money in it, but I imagine if I had a gps or something it would have been gone.
Make sure you lock up your cars, kids. Double check just in case you forget...

So if it get's looked through the ONE time you forget to lock it, that means someone has been going every night to check to see if it was unlocked until now!

That sucks.

weirdest thing, a friend of mine the other day got a big bottle of R-134 to charge up his A/C, and only used half the can. He was bringing it in so I can top my system off and left his car unlocked. That was the only thing they took (and not the hose/gauge setup I lent him). I hope someone tried to get high off it

Yes, it is amazing how these low-lifes work.
Once, about 8 years ago I stopped by my apartment for like 5 minutes after work, I was on my cell phone, parked, ran upstairs forgot to lock the car. When I came back down my very nice and expensive CD player head unit was missing. I was so very, very pissed.

Every quarter and most of the nickels?
These guys sound like pros.

Took the nickels, left the dimes. They didn't even take the coin holder!

I drive a Miata, my car is never locked. . . But I don't keep anything of worth in the car anyways. It does suck when people go through your shit, but at least you didn't wind up with a busted window.
My last car had an alarm with only the drivers side door with an actuator for the lock and I would always arm the system but about 85% of the time the passenger door was unlocked. One night some idiot was going around looking for cars that were unlocked and happened on my car and opened up the door and the alarm went off, if I wasn't naked at the time I would have run out and clubbed him in the knee, but I was naked and he shut the door to my car and ran to his janky ass maxima and sped off into the night.
So ends another edition of "cool story, bro" with Squid.

when I had my jeep somebody stole my CD player and amp. I had just replaced the CD player the weekend before and I had left the "keys" needed to slide it in and out in my cupholder. I still feel like an idiot for that one.

haha I would love to catch somebody going through my car, although I'd probably end up with my ass handed to me AND have my car gone trough

I'll bet if you had some of those chocolate gold coins in there, that's all they would have taken...

I like to keep a big stick by the front door so when you get their knee cap and bring them down you can call the cops and say the nice gentleman fell when he was returning your belongings to you and you wanted to make sure he was safe. . . I guess fortunately I am a larger fella with a big beard and I look kind of mean so people usually don't fuck with me, but I won't ever go after someone without some sort of defensive weapon. 9/10 times the dickweed will just run if you catch them all while throwing your shit all over the street.

Rather lose a few small items than have to replace a window. Never leave anything of value in plain sight.

it seems like more than a coincidence now that you mention it...

Driving a Miata. Awesome mental imagery going on right now.

I also am generally blasting black metal with the top down. If that helps add to the picture. My friends all laugh at me when I get into and out of the car, but I'd say that I'm on the upper end of what you could call a comfortable fit in a Miata. . . I find it funny that I drive such a tiny car every time I look at it.

lol duuuuuude!!!! I was doing a door lock on my 1990 525i. i still needed some parts and said, nah it's be fine to leave it like that all night. THE ONLY TIME!!! I leave my car unlocked, some dude went through my sheeeet. They also stole mt quarters, some double A batteries, and shuffled the papers in the glovebox. That's it though. I also never ever keep anything valuable in the jalopies

I graduated on a Friday. Took the SDL home and picked up the Fiat that morning. Sister and father needed something from the car. Whoever grabbed something last forgot to lock it. I lost about a dozen gold dollars, some sunglasses and my GPS. I didn't go back into that car until Monday morning a week later, when I went to hook up my GPS on my first day to work.
I usually move my car from the street to the driveway at night. I decided to leave it on the street since I was planning on driving the Fiat anyway. Oh well. Call it a $200 lesson and my motivation to eventually buy a house in another county.

I came out of the office one night a few years back and found that someone had broken the rear "vent" window (not really a vent, it was fixed so you couldn't open it) on my '90 Corolla, unlocked the back door and climbed in. They tried to start it with their own key, but all they succeeded in doing was to break their key off in my ignition lock. They got in the little compartment between the front seats and took, first, a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses with one of the temples broken off, and second, a roll of what they probably thought were quarters, but were really Sunshine Skyway tokens. Fortunately the car was so full of junk and trash that they didn't notice the briefcase with my laptop computer in the back seat - there was some guy's shoe print on it where he had stepped in it climbing into the front seat.

Man, if you had come out stark naked and screaming at the top of your lungs and you'd have scared that guy half to death. Especially if you were waving a machete at the time.

With that kind of haul, they probably went out and bought a pack of gum.

They stole your change? Maybe it was the sticky bandits.

That's horrible. The first night in my new house, my friend who was helping me move left my car unlocked. A thief got all my change; tried to get my stereo, but only got the removable face and half-pulled out the head unit, and worst of all stole the the adaptor for my locking lug nuts.

I used to leave the Cherokee unlocked at my parent's house all the time, until one morning I went out and my book bag was gone with a Gerber knife, GPS, etc. Two fucking years of leaving the doors unlocked and some shitbird walked by and stole my stuff. People suck.

I always lock my doors out of habit because this has happened to me before when I lived at my dad's house. This is the one time I forgot apparently, which is what freaked me out. Like Brian said who knows how long someone has been checking...

That sucks!
I had it happen to me when living in downtown Chicago. It wasn't until I started driving the car the next day that I realized the glove box, center console, etc... were all open and all my stuff was thrown around. Luckily, I never kept the face for my stereo, iPod, or GPS in the car, but they did take the GPS power cord and suction mount.
To this day I wonder if they were trying to steal it and were thwarted by the 3-pedals so just grabbed what they could and ran off.

Meanwhile, here I am in perhaps the safest place in the country. Forget leaving the car unlocked, people regularly leave the keys in the ignition and there is never a single theft reported.

That's the point! They could just screen every car that tries to get on the ferry.
