The cheapest Mustang any of us would want, The Ecooboostang with performance package, is roughly $28,000. What else can you get for your deniro? A whole lot.
The FiST and FoST both with recaros and savings for your next set of tires.
A Scion FRS with performance exhaust and lowering springs.
The new WRX with... pretty much nothing.
A Fiat 500 Abarth with a lot of cash for track days bro.
Mini Cooper S with sport suspension and black wheels.
And my personal favorite, the V6 Camaro with 1LE suspension and performance exhaust.
UPDATE:
Can't believe I forgot the answer
No options or accessories, save your money for tires and coilovers.

Very cool and diverse list. I am sad the 5.0 or ECOBOOST doesn't have a stripper LX style package that would be little to no options for performance folks.
People really buy factory option performance exhaust?

Dammit, you beat me to the "you could get a BRZ for that kind of money".

My buddy made the argument he'd rather have the Scion over the Subaru because he could finance the exhaust. Personally I'd rather choose my own aftermarket one.

You could get a used Toyobaru and a supercharger for that kind of money. lol

You missed the most obvious one of all...
V6 Mustang!

Not anymore. No performance package.

I'm not one of them, but some people just want a Mustang. I'd wager the new Mustang is a better looking car than virtually every car listed too, including the Hairdresser's girly convertible of choice, the Miata.
By the way I just got rid of my Fiesta. Not an ST. It was a quality car, but way tooooooooo small.

you MIGHT be able to get one of these for that money:

What else can you get for your deniro? A whole lot.
But what if my De Niro doesn't like any of the other choices?
(Psst: Dinero)

"Better looking" is in the eye of the beholder. I'd rather be seen in any of these than the Mustang. Partly because it's a Mustang, but it also looks fairly bloated in person.
If it were my money, I'd probably buy the BRZ/FR-S, the Focus ST, the WRX or the Abarth.

2014 V6 then.

BRZ twins, okay, slow, but okay. Focus ST, tight interior, fast, okay. Abarth, I'm torn on it. I think it's "cute" with an evil edge. Still, it's a girl car. But like I said, a Mustang lover is a Mustang lover.
I drive BMWs. I appreciate most cars though.

Edit to edit: forgot it was Pacino *&* De Niro in Heat.
I made McCauley spit out his coffee HALF AN HOUR AGO

With the Miata you've either never driven one, at least not properly, or are trolling.

I'd get the base wrx, when I want a 4cyl turbo car imma go to the pros

Upon reflection, I doubt there are a lot of people cross-shopping an EcoBoost Mustang and a 500 Abarth. It's hard to imagine two sporty 2-doors that could possibly be more different.

I started to build a 2015 Mustang today since everyone else was and I was really surprised at how much they cost. But I'm extra poor and unemployed, so cost is a relative term to me right now.
I'd rather have a Focus ST because practicality. Owning a hatchback car for the last five years has really shown me how nice hauling massive amounts of stuff in a seemingly tiny car is. Yes, I'm lame. :(

Can you post one because I was having the damnedest time trying to find the configurator on veedub's site.

I love hatchbacks and have hauled tons of way too big things in ones way smaller than a Focus.

a picture of one? a configured one? Starts at $25k

a picture of a configuration. My aim with each of these was to be the most Jalop version possible under the price of 28k ecoboostang w/trackpack. The Fiat is so cheap because their are no real Jalop options. The Camaro costs almost as much because there were still performance options I could have added even to the V6. What is the sportiest/most Jalop GTI for under 28k? I know they start around 25k but there is more to it than that.

ah I see. not sure in the US models but pretty sure performance is same across all models. also see no configurator :(

JK, there is a $1500 performance option for 10hp, bigger brakes, and LSD. Upper trims have an $800 dynamic chassis control option.

not a troll. I've driven Mazdas as and owned them. It's a great little car, but it's a car in own little tight box occupied by girls and then guys who drive it in its natural habitat: the track.

You've got that right for certain!
